Mezzatesta Selected as CACC Golf Rookie of the Month, Kirkpatrick Appears on Honor Roll
 
New Haven, Conn. - (11/3/2016) – Helping Chestnut Hill College in a series of matches at the ACE Club, Watertown Golf Club, Patriot’s Glen National Golf Club, and Inniscrone Golf Club, sophomore Brian Kirkpatrick (Jacksonville, Fla.) and freshman Taylor Mezzatesta (Forest Hill, Md.) earned recognition on the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Golf Monthly Report. Kirkpatrick garnered an Honor Roll mention while Mezzatesta was recognized as the league’s Rookie of the Month.
 
Placing all five of their golfers among the top-ten finishers at the ACE Club, Dominican College emerged as the winner at the Philadelphia University Invitational, on October 4, with 302 (+14) total strokes. Nyack College offered the event's top striker in sophomore Tom Holmes (Mildura, Australia), who completed the 6,702-yard course in 71 (-1) swings. Chestnut Hill College finished fourth in the nine-team field with their combined score of 315 (+27); Kirkpatrick served as the Griffins' top performer with a round of 75 (+3) tying him for fifth place. Mezzatesta tied for 32nd with his round of 84 (+12).
 
On Tuesday, October 11, play at the Post Eagles Invitational concluded CACC rival, Wilmington University emerging as the best team at Watertown Golf Club with their combined day-two score of 295 (+11) bringing their tournament total to 592 (297-295, +24) strokes. Chestnut Hill College finished ninth in the 12-team field (9th of 12, 317-315, 632, +64), bettering their day-one score by two strokes (315, +31). Kirkpatrick used a second-day round of 77 (+6) to finish just a shot behind senior Kevin O'Donnell (Cape May Court House, N.J.) as Chestnut Hill College's second best performer with his combined score of 156 (79-77, +14) tying him for 28th. Mezzatesta improved upon his first round to serve as the Griffins' fourth qualifying scorer with his two-day score of 163 (85-78, +21) leaving him tied for 57th.
 
Later that week, on October 16, Chestnut Hill College finished seven strokes (301-307, 608, +32) behind their 2015 tour of the 6,730-yard property of the Patriot's Glen National Golf Club. Kirkpatrick shot a 75 (+3), improving upon his day-one score of 82 (+10) to finish in a tie for 13th with a 157 (75-82, +13). Meanwhile Mezzatesta (77-77, 154, +10) and O’Donnell (75-79, 154, +10) tied for sixth overall and second for the Scarlet and Gold with matching tournament scores of 154 (+10).
 
Wilmington University offered three of the top five finishers, including the Fall Griffin Invitational individual champion, junior Troy Miller (Turners Falls, Mass.). Miller scored an even par (70, E) on the 6,561-yard course. Kirkpatrick was the leader for Chestnut Hill College as his round of 76 (+6) placed him in a tie for third place. Mezzatesta was the first of three Griffins who finished back-to-back-to-back with only three strokes between them. He placed 11th with his round of 81 (+11).
 
The Chestnut Hill College golf team will return to action in the spring of 2017.
