Glenn Rookie of the Week Nod Headlines Chestnut Hill College Trio on CACC Weekly Report

Philadelphia, Pa. - (1/30/2017) – Chestnut Hill College collected valuable Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) wins over Philadelphia University, 75-69 on January 24, and Felician University, 82-75 on January 28, this week with impressive team efforts. As a result a trio of Griffins earned recognition on the league’s weekly report; freshman forward Shannon Glenn (Philadelphia, Pa.) headlined the group with the CACC Defensive Player of the Week Award, while sophomores, Jaeda Wildgoose (Somerset, N.J.) and Mary Trossi (Somerset, N.J.), both appeared on the CACC Honor Roll. Glenn is the third Griffin to be named the CACC Defensive Player of the Week this season, following senior guard Brittany McDonough (Brooklyn, N.Y.) (1/9/2017) and senior forward Caity Kuhnen (Binghamton, N.Y.) (11/15/2016).

Other than a pair of early ties, Chestnut Hill College led for the duration of Tuesday evening's CACC contest at Philadelphia University. The Lady Rams answered the first two Scarlet and Gold baskets of the evening, knotting the game for the last time with 8:29 (4-4) remaining in the first quarter. From there, the Griffins separated with an inside-outside combination that flourished behind the steady paint play of Wildgoose and junior forward Nicole Parriski (Burlington, N.J.) and the timely perimeter shooting of senior forward Kuhnen and junior guard Vicky Tumasz (North Wales, Pa.). Chestnut Hill College held a 25-19 first-quarter lead, which they eventually advanced to 15 points, 51-36, by halftime. In the end, the Griffins claimed a 75-69 victory, splitting the CACC series with four players in double figures; Wildgoose was the top performer in the quartet with her fifth double-double of the season. Her game-high 18 points came on 9-of-17 (.529) shooting effort; she also totaled 10 rebounds to complete the double-double. Glenn was one of three Griffins to hit three, three-point baskets (3-of-8, .375). She finished with 11 points, five rebounds, four assists, and a block. Trossi totaled six points, six rebounds, and six assists in the affair.

On Saturday, Chestnut Hill College landed five players scoring in double figures, using a second-half surge to capture a critical 82-75 victory over Felician University. Tumasz led all scorers with 18 points, while also contributing six steals and four assists. Wildgoose (17 points), Glenn (16), Kuhnen (15), and Trossi (10) rounded out the double-figure performers, with Trossi adding eight rebounds and eight assists to narrowly miss on her second triple-double of the season.

With a 32-30 advantage, the Griffins roared out of the halftime break, using a pair of Tumasz free throws to push their lead to 14 points, 46-32, in the opening three minutes (7:00, 3rd). But, Felician University outscored Chestnut Hill College 19-4 over the next 5:17 to secure a 51-50 advantage with 1:43 remaining in the third quarter. Fortunately, the Griffins finished the frame on a 7-0 run to take a six-point, 57-51 lead into the fourth quarter. There, the Scarlet and Gold extended their lead back to 14 points, 70-56, with 6:05 remaining and kept the Golden Falcons at bay in an 82-75 final.

The Chestnut Hill College women’s basketball team returns to action on Wednesday, February 1, when they host non-conference foe, Washington Adventist University in a 6:00 p.m. contest.
