Klusaritz and McDermott Garner ECC Weekly Awards For Play in Win Over Dominican College

Central Islip, N.Y. – (3/27/2017) – Junior attack Dylan Klusaritz (Slatington, Pa.) led all scorers with six points (two goals and four assists) and also recovered three ground balls, while senior goalkeeper Thomas McDermott (Ridley, Pa.) recorded 15 saves and three ground balls in Chestnut Hill College’s recent 17-9 league win over Dominican College. Today, Monday, March 27, they were respectively honored as the East Coast Conference (ECC) Men’s Lacrosse Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week. The latter is the third such honor for McDermott, who was also named the ECC Defensive Player of the Week on March 13 and February 27.

Versus Dominican College (3-5, 0-3), Chestnut Hill College (3-2, 2-0) opened the scoring at the 11:54 mark of the first quarter when sophomore midfielder Matthew Anderson (Yardley, Pa.) notched an unassisted marker, 1-0. The Griffins doubled their advantage just under two minutes later (10:16) when senior midfielder Devan Martinez (Binghamton, N.Y.) found Klusaritz for the tally, 2-0. The Chargers answered at 9:23, 2-1, but the Scarlet and Gold would not yield, closing the quarter with three straight goals; the last a man-up tally from senior attack Alec Dambach (Howell, N.J.), 5-1.

The action came fast and furious in the next frame, as the Chargers chimed in just 42 seconds into the second quarter (5-2 at 14:18). But, the Griffins scored the next two goals – the second was a connection between Klusaritz and Dambach at 13:07 (7-2) - before Dominican College struck again at 12:14, 7-3. Chestnut Hill College took control from there, scoring four of the final five goals in the quarter to reach halftime with an 11-4 advantage.

Klusaritz scored his second goal at 14:11 (12-5) of the third quarter and provided assists on fourth-quarter scores by senior attack Tanner Fisher (Port Coquitlam, British Columbia) (14-6 at 13:22 and 15-7 at 6:01). He currently ranks second on the team in goals (9) and assists (8), to share the team lead in points (17) with Dambach.

McDermott currently ranks fourth in the ECC for saves (76) and goals-against-average (8.77) while ranking first in goals against (43) and save percentage (.639).

The Chestnut Hill College men’s lacrosse team returns to action on Wednesday, March 29, when they host ECC rival, Mercy College in a 1:00 p.m. contest.
