Fanfarillo’s Game-Winner Warrants
CACC’s Weekly Rookie Award

Lincoln University, Pa. - (10/27/2017) – The 2017 Chestnut Hill College women’s soccer season came to a close under the Friday-night lights of Lions Stadium as the Griffins visited The Lincoln University for this evening’s concluding contest. Junior midfielder Marikate O’Toole (Philadelphia, Pa.) found freshman forward Gabby Fanfarillo (Glassboro, N.J.) for the Scarlet and Gold’s first and eventual game-winning goal at 18:29 as a Lion own goal (39:09) only provided Chestnut Hill College insurance in a 2-0 victory. For her effort, Fanfarillo was honored as the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Rookie of the Week.

Chestnut Hill College (4-13) and The Lincoln University (6-10) traded a series of shots before O’Toole fired an attempt at sophomore goalkeeper Lena Rodriguez (Lockport, Ill.) (17:36). The Lion keeper made that stop, but a little less than a minute later O’Toole threatened again, this time locating Fanfarillo for her second goal of the season, 1-0 (18:29). The Griffins continued to pressure the Lion defense after the initial tally with O’Toole, Fanfarillo, and senior defender Kylee Jazikoff (Brick, N.J.) peppering the Rodriguez until an aggressive play by senior forward Julianna Casasanto (Philadelphia, Pa.) forced The Lincoln University to put it in their own net at 39:09 (2-0).

The two-goal edge was more than enough to ensure victory for the Griffins, whose 26-19 shot advantage was their only one of the season. The 26 shots were a season high as well. Jazikoff provided six of them, O’Toole took five, Fanfarillo and senior midfielder Kiersten Cobb-Wilkins (Lowman, N.Y.) offered four, Casasanto three, senior forward Morgan Ruth (Blackwood, N.J.) another two, and sophomore defender Geena DiRugeris (Woodbury, N.J.) and sophomore defender Elizabeth McCormick (Philadelphia, Pa.) the other two.

The Chestnut Hill College women's soccer team finished the 2017 season 4-13 overall and 3-9 in CACC play.
