Philadelphia, PA - (10/30/10) – The women's volleyball team hosted Concordia College in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) competition this afternoon. The Clippers gained momentum as the match progressed, winning the match 3-0 (25-20, 25-21, 25-17). Sophomores, right side Madelynn Ries (Antananarivo, Madagascar) and setter Courtney Gallo (Wilmington, DE) directed the Griffin effort.
Chestnut Hill College (4-23, 1-15) recorded their first couple points, but Concordia College (5-15, 5-12) slowly stole the lead before claiming the opening set 25-20. The Griffins never trailed by more than four points in the second set, but the Clippers netted a .293 (17K-5E-41TA) team hitting percentage to win the frame, 25-21. In the third set, freshman setter Alicia Vogel (Huntington Beach, CA) captained to Clippers to victory, 25-17, setting seven kills in the set.
Vogel was supported by fellow freshman setter Hillary Hoffman (East Meadow, NY), who supplied 18 assists to the Clippers offensive effort. On the frontline, freshman outside hitter Irina Impellittiere (Cold Spring, NY) and sophomore outside hitter Juliann Gillespie (Clarkson, MI) each finished with double-digit kills and digs. Impellittiere totaled 13 kills and 10 digs while Gillespie recorded 11 kills and 14 digs. Senior libero Amanda Byrd (Clarkson, MI) also totaled 14 digs.
For Chestnut Hill College, Ries totaled nine kills while Gallo hustled to 14 assists. Contributing to the offensive production, sophomore middle hitter Cassie Benson (Rosamond, CA) added six kills and sophomore setter Allison Eberly (Orwigsburg, PA) chipped in with ten assists. Gallo was also one of three Griffins to record at least ten digs, she finished with 12. Sophomores, libero Elisabeth DiGregorio (Conshohocken, PA) led the Griffin defense with 17 digs; sophomore defensive specialist Bobbie Chukuntarod (San Francisco, CA) totaled ten digs as well.
The women's volleyball team continues their final CACC homestand of the season with a 7:00 p.m. match against Nyack College on Tuesday, November 2.
