Waterbury, CT – (3/27/2010) – The Griffins were held to three hits on their trip to Post University this afternoon. The Eagles swept Chestnut Hill College 10-1 and 11-0 in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) doubleheader, winning both contests in five innings. Freshman first baseman Giana Cavallo (Turnersville, NJ) doubled to break-up a no-hitter in the fourth inning of game two.

Post University (7-13, 5-1) scored three runs in the first inning of today's opener. Sophomore catcher Amy Mantha (Agawam, MA) and senior shortstop Samantha Canning (Lynbrook, NY) knocked in runs before the first out and a sacrifice fly later in the at-bat brought home the third Eagle. Freshman right fielder Joan Quinn (Trenton, NJ) doubled to put two runners in scoring position for Chestnut Hill College (0-16, 0-6) in the second inning, but a sacrifice fly from freshman left fielder Allie Schempp (Clayton, NJ) only brought home one run, 3-1. After an Eagle run in the third inning, 4-1, senior second baseman Julie Treen (Upper Township, NJ) recorded the Griffins' other hit leading off the fourth inning. Unfortunately, the Griffins were unable to bring her home while Post University added six more scores in the bottom of the fourth inning. Freshman pitcher Cassie Benson (Rosamond, CA) took the loss (0-6) for the Griffins while senior Lindsey Heiser (Canajoharie, NY) was the winning pitcher for the Eagles.

After ten Eagle runs, Cavallo doubled in the fourth inning of game. She placed two Griffins in scoring position and broke up the no-hit bid while pushing Treen to third. However, neither made it home as the Eagles scored 11 runs on 11 hits to sweep the conference twin bill. Sophomore second baseman Kim Bentson (Brewster, NY) and Canning both homered for the Eagles. Canning recorded four runs-batted-in (RBI). Sophomore pitcher Kayla Shoap (Newville, PA) took the loss (0-4) for the Griffins while senior pitcher Stephanie Carrillo (Los Angeles, CA) earned the win for the Eagles.

The softball team travels to Holy Family University for another CACC doubleheader on Tuesday, March 30. Opening pitched is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
