3/30/2010 9:00:26 PM

Lafayette Hill, PA – (3/30/2010) – As the rains poured down and the wind whipped across Victory Field #1, Chestnut Hill College was joined by Post University for this afternoon's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest. The Griffins used their home field advantage to grab a 7-0 lead before the Eagles came soaring back in the second half. Luckily, time ran-out on the rally as the Griffins earned their first conference win of the season, 12-10.

Chestnut Hill College (2-3, 1-2) posted a 7-0 lead after the opening 16 minutes (16:01), thanks to the senior leadership of Carley Glass (Swedesboro, NJ) and Maryanne Glass (Swedesboro, NJ). The sisters each scored twice and each provided an assist, while two scores by freshman attack Nicole Covella (Vineland, NJ) and another from junior midfielder Jillian Sanger (Bowmansville, PA) gave the Griffins a comfortable lead halfway through the opening period. Post University (0-7, 0-5) got on the scoreboard 18:46 into the contest with a goal from freshman defender Sara Cramer (Lake Hiawatha, NJ) and they closed the gap to 8-2 by halftime. Following the break the Griffins got two quick scores to extend the lead to 10-2, but as time wore on the Eagles fared better through the weather as they mounted a 6-1 run to trail the Griffins 11-8 with two minutes remaining. Twenty three seconds later (28:23), freshman midfielder Christina Squillante (Kings Park, NY) gave the Griffins a bit of breathing room with her first goal of the season. The Eagles netted two more tallies before the final horn, but the comeback fell short as the Griffins escaped with their first CACC victory of the season.

Freshman midfielder Kathryn Price (Old Saybrook, CT) led the Eagles with four of her five goals coming in the second-half streak. Senior defender Tiffany Neuendorf (Norwich, CT) provided two goals, an assist, four ground balls, and six caused turnovers while freshman goalkeeper Michelle Chadwick (Miami, FL) took the loss and made six saves in goal.

The Griffins benefitted from a team effort as five players totaled at least two points. Maryanne Glass led the way with three goals and an assist. She also recorded four ground balls, two draws, and five caused turnovers. Covella added six ground balls, two draws, and four caused turnovers to her two-goal afternoon. Freshman midfielder Emily Goode (Ellicottville, NY) finished with two scores, two draws, and a caused turnover while Sanger totaled a goal, two assists, three ground balls, a draw, and a caused turnover.

Goalkeepers, junior Cherise Bell (Elkins Park, PA) and sophomore Ashley Hoch (Philadelphia, PA) split halves for the Griffins. Bell got the start and earned the win (2-3) with two saves. Hoch made five saves in the second half.

The women's lacrosse team will host Dowling College next. The contest is scheduled for a 7:00 p.m. start in the Plymouth Whitemarsh Football Stadium on Thursday, April 1.
