Perry, OH – (4/1/2010) – Chestnut Hill College took a long trip across Pennsylvania today to visit Lake Erie College for an evening East Coast Conference (ECC) contest. The league rivals stood even at halftime, 4-4, but the Storm used two, three-goal runs in the second half to separate and eventually capture an 11-9 victory. The Griffins were led by freshman midfielder D.J. Klusaritz (Allentown, PA), who totaled two goals and two assists in the affair.
Freshman attack Mark Winkelspecht Chestnut Hill College (3-6, 0-5) on the scoreboard with the contests' first goal just 59 seconds in. However, the Strom would deposit two goals before the end of the first quarter to gain the advantage. Klusaritz tied the contest, 2-2, but the Griffins snagged a 4-3 lead with freshman midfielder Dan Bohon (Lincoln University, PA) finding freshmen midfielder Nate Tharp (Laurel, MD) and attack Shane Morlock (Whitby, ON) for goals. But Lake Erie College (2-4, 1-3) evened things up by the break, 4-4, as freshman attack Keegan Bal (Coquitlam, BC) scored with just five seconds remaining in the half. The Storm used that momentum to launch a 6-2 run in the third quarter. Goals from Morlock and Winkelspecht split the Strom's streak into two, three-goal runs which established a 10-6 deficit heading to the final quarter. The Griffins threatened with goals from Winkelspecht and Klusaritz, 10-8, but they could not quiet the Strom, who won the conference contest 11-9.
Four players scored two goals each for the Storm, with Bal headlining the group. He added two assist to his scores. Freshman goalie Alexander Wisner (Sylvania, OH) totaled 12 saves and collected the win for Lake Erie College.
Freshman midfielder Alex Sabia (Conshohocken, PA) gave the Griffins the upper hand in the face-off circle as he was 14-for-23 on the draw while harnessing a game-high 13 ground balls. Chestnut Hill College also held the advantage in shots, 35-29, and ground balls, 21-16, but a 1-for-11 effort on man-up opportunities left chances on the field. Morlock led the Griffins' scoring with three goals, he also provided an assist. Klusaritz recorded two goals, two assists, and a ground ball. Freshman goalie Andrew D'Addona (Norristown, PA) made his first start and totaled four saves, but freshman goalie Dakota Maurer (Lititz, PA) took the loss (3-5) surrendering two goals in the opening three minutes of the second half.
The men's lacrosse team continues their ECC schedule with a 1:00 p.m. contest at Mercyhurst College on Saturday, April 3.
