Griffins Close Conference Season With Win over Lady Rams

Lafayette Hill, PA – (4/22/2010) – This evening, Chestnut Hill College and Philadelphia University entered halftime knotted in a 4-4 tie. Following the break the Griffins took the field with purpose and won the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest 10-8. Senior attack Maryanne Glass (Swedesboro, NJ) fueled the Griffins with four goals and two assists. The Griffins finishes 4-8 in conference play.

 

The opponents never separated by more than a goal in the opening period. Philadelphia University (7-8, 7-3) scored the first tally 7:33 after the opening draw and Chestnut Hill College (5-11, 4-8) answered immediately with Glass finding freshman attack Brianne Timony (Allentown, NJ) for a goal just 14 seconds later (7:47). The Griffins and Lady Rams traded tallies with the home team pulling even at intermission with a score from senior midfielder Carley Glass (Swedesboro, NJ). The Griffins opened the second half with a five-goal run which put the home team up 9-4 midway through the second half (13:09). A late Lady Ram push threatened the triumph, but the Griffins held on to a 10-8 final.

 

Junior attack Taylor Boyle (Wilton, CT) and senior Kathleen Maurer (Rochester, NY) each scored three goals for the Lady Rams; Boyle scored her three goals in the final 12:20 to headline the Lady Rams' last charge. Senior goalkeeper Katherine Sullivan (Mt. Laurel, NJ) made 19 saves in the loss.

 

In addition to her offensive production, Maryanne Glass grabbed six draw controls helping the Griffins dictate play on their home field. Carley Glass totaled three goals in the contest; she also recorded two ground balls, three draws, and two caused turnovers. Freshman midfielder Christina Squillante (Kings Park, NY) scored twice and freshman attack Nicole Covella (Vineland, NJ) hustled to six ground balls and caused four turnovers. Junior goalkeeper Cherise Bell (Elkins Park, PA) made four saves in her fifth win of the season (5-8).

 

The women's lacrosse team concludes their season with a visit to Moravian College on Tuesday, April 27. The contest is scheduled for a 4:00 p.m. opening draw.
