Lions Top Griffins in Women’s Lacrosse

Lakewood, NJ – (4/3/2010) – Chestnut Hill College visited Georgian Court University for the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) rivals' second meeting of the year. The Lions won the game 21-6 to sweep the season series. The Griffins received two goals apiece from senior midfielder Carley Glass (Swedesboro, NJ) and freshman attack Nicole Covella (Vineland, NJ).

 

Georgian Court University (8-1, 5-0) scored the first, four goals of the contest, before senior attack Maryanne Glass (Swedesboro, NJ) got Chestnut Hill College (2-5, 1-3) on the scoreboard seven minutes (7:03) into the affair. The Lions scored 49 seconds later and then traded goals with the Griffins over the next 14 minutes to leave Georgian Court University ahead 9-4 with 7:40 remaining in the first half. The Lions would score three more times before the break to make it 10-4 at halftime and they scored the first, six goals of the second half to extend their lead to 16-4 before Carley Glass interrupted the Lions' offense with 11:05 left to play. Covella scored the Griffins' final goal with 7:40 remaining on the clock, but the Lions continued on to a 21-6 win.

 

Junior attack Shannon Mastrogovanni (Monroe Township, NJ) led the Lions with four goals, while senior midfielder Kara Sanford (Pine Beach, NJ) helped Georgian Court University in every facet of the competition with three goals, an assist, six ground balls, three draws, and three caused turnovers. Senior goalkeeper Nicole Latteri (West Long Branch, NJ) earned the win and made five saves.

 

Carley Glass hustled to six ground balls in addition to her two scores and Covella added a draw control to her two-goal performance to headline the Griffin effort. Freshman attack Maya Fairweather (Bowie, MD) provide a goal and two draws, while junior goalkeeper junior Cherise Bell (Elkins Park, PA) made six saves in the losing effort (2-5). Sophomore goalkeeper Ashley Hoch (Philadelphia, PA) recorded two saves in the final 7:40 of the contest.

 

The women's lacrosse team continues their CACC schedule with a trip to Dominican College on Tuesday, April 6. The contest is scheduled for a 4:00 p.m. opening draw.
