Philadelphia, PA– (10/18/2011) – Amidst the Chestnut Hill College Family Weekend festivities, the women's volleyball team will be hosting their Side-out Foundation Dig Pink match against Post University on Friday, October 21. The evening will feature a 50/50 drawing, a serving competition, and a “Best Seat in the House” prize for person who wears most pink. The Side-Out Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that was established in 2004 to unite volleyball players and coaches toward the common goal of making a significant and identifiable difference in the lives of breast cancer patients and their families.
The Chestnut Hill College volleyball team encourages all to attend and wear their pink in support of breast cancer research. With all proceeds going to the Side-Out Foundation, the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) will be running a 50/50 raffle with tickets on sale at three for $1 or $5 for your bust line and a post-match serving competition with chances at $1 per serve. Prizes for the evening's contests and raffles range from Wawa gift cards and t-shirts, to breast cancer bracelets.
The Side-Out Foundation's goal is to advance clinical trials, increase compassionate support services and educate communities. Side-Out supports teams nationwide in their volleyball tournaments, clinics and other fundraising efforts. The foundation offers practical support for fundraising in addition to educational material for participants in order to help them become effective advocates for breast cancer. It contributes the funds to organizations that serve breast cancer patients, whether it be in the form of research, medical services or compassionate support. The term side-out refers to a situation in volleyball when one team wins a point while its opponent is serving, thereby regaining serve or control of play. It is hoped that Side-Out will do the same for breast cancer patients, providing them with the support, education and best available treatments to regain control of their lives.
