Box Score Philadelphia, PA – (11/27/2011) – Fortune was in Chestnut Hill College's corner this afternoon as the Griffins survived for a 70-69 win over the University of Bridgeport thanks to an ill-advised Purple Knight foul with only seconds remaining on the game clock. Four Griffins finished in double figures; they were led by senior forward
Dan Comas (Philadelphia, PA) who finished the affair with 15 points.
A game-tying three-point basket from senior guard William Harrison (Bronx, NY), allowed the University of Bridgeport (3-3) to knot the game at 69-69 with five seconds remaining. After Purple Knight timeout, an error in defensive execution resulted in a foul for the visitors and a pair of potential game-winning free throws for sophomore guard
Jakeem Bogans (Philadelphia, PA). Bogans missed the first, but clinched victory for Chestnut Hill College (5-2) by converting his second attempt at the line, 70-69. The Purple Knights led the contest 30-23 at halftime and they maintained that advantage through the 12-minue mark (12:06), 47-40, of the second half. Over the next two minutes (10:06), a pair of three-point baskets from freshman guard
Luke Dickson (Pittman, NJ) and a couple free throws from senior guard
Brandon Williams (Philadelphia, PA) out-weighed a Purple Knight bucket and brought the Griffins within one, 49-48. Two straight Purple Knight baskets allowed them to separate for a five-point lead, 53-48, but they would eventually succumb their own careless defense; placing the Griffins on the free throw line for the game-winner and helping the home team to a 28-of-32 (87.5%) performance from the charity stripe.
Senior forward Eion Lewis (Brooklyn, NY) led four Purple Knights who finished in double figures. He totaled 17 points to go along with two blocks and three steals. Junior guard Hakeem Rodriguez (Long Island City, NY) offered 11 points, seven assists, a block, and two steals, while Harrison and junior guard Omari Howard (Bronx, NY) supplied ten points apiece.
Comas corralled eight rebounds while recording four assists, a block, and three steals in addition to his team-high, 15 points. Williams provided 14 points, four rebounds, two assists and three steals, while Dickson and junior guard
Mark DiRugeris Jr. (Woodbury, NJ) finished the evening with 13 points apiece. Dickson added four rebounds, two assists, and two steals to his team-rallying effort. DiRugeris also supplied three rebounds, an assist, a block, and a steal.
