Mark DiRugeris Jr. (Woodbury, NJ) totaled a game-high, 23 points to power Chestnut Hill College to a 86-64 win at Mercy College this evening. DiRugeris was 4-of-4 (100.0%) from three-point territory, leading the Griffins in a 10-of-14 (71.4%) effort from long range, their shooting overwhelmed the Mavericks in the second half expanding a 43-33 halftime advantage into a 22-point triumph.
Play went back-and-forth until Chestnut Hill College (6-2) separated for a five-point lead, 21-16, at 8:32 on a three-point basket from freshman guard
Luke Dickson (Pittman, NJ). Six minutes later, 2:38, the Griffin lead reached ten points, 39-29, on a pair of DiRugeris free throws. They maintained that margin until halftime, 44-34, thanks to 11 points from DiRugeris, who was 3-of-3 (100.0%) from beyond the arch and 2-of-2 (100.0%) at the free throw line. After the break the Griffins lead reached as many as 24 points, 63-39, the first time coming at the 14-minute mark (14:00). The margin of victory was 22, 86-64, thanks to DiRugeris' season-high scoring performance.
Junior forward Joseph Pope (Akron, OH) came off the bench to lead Mercy College (0-5) with 12 points. Sophomores, guard Chaz Morrish (Douglaston, NY) and forward Kirk Bailey (Freeport, NY) helped the Maverick effort; Morrish with ten points and Bailey with eight points, eight rebounds, and two steals.
