Flushing, NY – (3/19/2011) – The softball team traveled to Queens College for today's doubleheader. In the opener, senior second baseman Shannan Burdziak (Elkins Park, PA) recorded two hits, but that was the only offense the Griffins could muster in an 8-0 loss. Sophomore first baseman Giana Cavallo (Turnersville, NJ) put one over the fence in game two; unfortunately the sixth-inning homer was not enough to catch the Knights, who completed the twin-bill sweep with a 7-4 victory.

Queens College (6-6) claimed an early lead in the opener with freshman catcher Kaitlyn Crowley (Patchogue, NY) bringing in four runs if the Knights first, two at-bats. She homered in the first inning and slapped a two-run double in the second inning while sophomore pitcher Faith Tessmer (Lebanon, OH) took care of Chestnut Hill College (3-7). She held the Griffins to two hits in the five-inning affair. Burdziak recorded both reaching in her first, two at-bats. Sophomore pitcher Veronica Wilenta (Brick, NJ) took the loss (2-3).

The Griffins were able to grab a 3-1 lead in the third inning of game two, but the Knights bats awoke late scoring one run in the fourth inning and rattling freshman pitcher Brittany DeGarmo (Mt. Holly, NJ) for five runs in the fifth inning, 7-3. Cavallo's first collegiate homerun came in the Griffins half of the sixth inning, but it was all Knights would allow in the 7-4 defeat.

The softball team remains on the road to visit Arcadia College for a 3:00 p.m. doubleheader on Monday, March 21.
