Rockville Centre, NY – (3/19/2011) – Today's contest was a game of runs, but Molloy College outperformed Chestnut Hill College to the tune of a 21-10 final. The Lions opened with a six-goal scoring streak only for the Griffins to respond with a five-goal run of their own. Unfortunately, the Griffins could not keep up with the Lions who rushed back out to a 13-7 halftime lead before claiming an 11-goal victory.
Junior midfielder Emily Antonette (Seaford, NY) was the driving force behind Molloy College (3-1). She got the Lions on the scoreboard just 1:57 into the contest, sparking a 6-0 run. Sophomores, attack Nicole Covella (Vineland, NJ) and midfielder Brianne Timony (Allentown, NJ) answered for Chestnut Hill College (1-3); combining for a five-goal run and bringing the margin back to one, 6-5. Unfortunately, the Lions leaped back out to a 13-7 halftime advantage with a late 7-2 first-half run. The deficit only grew in the second half with the Lions outscoring the Griffins 8-3 in the frame.
Ten Lions scored in all with Antonette leading the way. She totaled six goals, an assist, and six draw controls. Senior goalkeeper Jackie Bove (North Massapequa, NY) made nine saves and corralled two ground balls in the win (3-1).
Covella finished as the Griffins leading performer with four goals; Timony netted two strikes. On the defensive end, sophomore midfielder Lindsay Alexander (Huntingdon Valley, PA) hustled to six ground balls while junior goalkeeper Jenn Delahanty (Staten Island, NY) made 16 saves and collected five ground balls in the loss (0-2).
The women's lacrosse team returns home on Tuesday, March 22, to resume their Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) schedule with a 7:00 p.m. contest against Holy Family University.
