3/26/2011 11:14:38 PM

Philadelphia, PA – (3/26/2011) – The Griffins opened their Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) schedule at home with a doubleheader against Post University. The Eagles won both contests, 8-1 and 5-2, sweeping this afternoon's competition at Chestnut Hill College. Sophomore first baseman Giana Cavallo (Turnersville, NJ) went 4-for-4 in the second game of the twin bill.

Post University (8-11, 2-0) scored in their first, two at-bats to grab an early two-run lead over
Chestnut Hill College (3-9, 0-2) 2-0. The margin grew to 5-0 in the fifth inning and 8-0 in the eighth inning, before senior right fielder Janean Ciancia (Trainer, PA) spoiled the shut out with run-scoring single in the Griffins final at-bat.

The Eagles held the advantage in the second game as well. They owned a 5-0 lead after the top of the sixth inning, but the Griffins trimmed the gap with two runs in their half of the frame. Cavallo led off the at-bat with her second homerun of the season, 5-1, before a one-out double from sophomore pitcher Cassie Benson (Rosamond, CA), and a single from sophomore center fielder Allie Schempp (Clayton, NJ) scored the Griffins second run of the frame, 5-2. Unfortunately, sophomore pitcher Johanna Rice (Glendale, NY) retired the last four Griffins she faced to complete the Eagles afternoon sweep.

The softball team heads to Wilmington University tomorrow, Sunday, March 27, to continue their CACC schedule with a 1:00 p.m. doubleheader.
