Box Score
Ft. Pierce, FL – (3/5/2011) – Senior third baseman George Kochu (Pottstown, PA) hit the first of back-to-back singles to set the table in the Griffins final at-bat against the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown (UPJ). On the second single, He hustled to third on an error by the Mountain Cats shortstop; and then scored on a sacrifice fly from sophomore catcher Timothy DiMonte (Downingtown, PA) to give Chestnut Hill College a 4-3 advantage. Senior pitcher Matt Casino (Port Chester, NY) closed out the bottom of the ninth inning for his second save for the season and the Griffins first win at Florida Coast Spring Training.

UPJ (1-3) lead-off the contest with a double and would net two runs on two, first-inning hits. Chestnut Hill College (2-3) responded in the third inning. DiMonte led off the inning with a walk, and an error at shortstop put senior designated hitter D.J. Santoro Jr. (Jeffersonville, PA) on base while moving DiMonte to third. A sacrifice fly from junior left fielder Alex Latchum (Warrington, PA) plated DiMonte, 2-1; and the following double from senior right fielder Dan Etherton (Princeton, NJ) would score two and put the Griffins up 3-2.

The Mountain cats tied the contest an inning later, 3-3. They should have scored two, but a throw from Etherton beat the runner to the plate and stifle UPJ's three-hit at-bat. Sophomore pitcher Bob Hopkins (Philadelphia, PA) then entered the fray and calmed the Mountain Cat bats. He worked three scoreless innings with a walk and two strikeouts while Casino handled the bottom of the ninth with three fly balls to the outfield. Junior pitcher Dan Morgan (Upper Darby, PA) got the start for the Griffins. He allowed two earned runs on seven hits and a walk, while striking out five in five innings. Hopkins earned the win (1-0).
