Box Score 1
Ft. Pierce, FL – (3/8/2011) – Chestnut Hill College completed their season series with the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown (UPJ) with an afternoon doubleheader at Florida Coast Spring Training. Senior pitcher Ryan Weber (Philadelphia, PA) was narrowly outdueled again as Griffin offense fell short in the opener, 2-1. The Griffins looked to split the twin bill with a 6-1, fifth-inning lead in game two, but the sixth inning was one to forget with the Mountain Cats using six hits and two errors to score nine runs for a 10-6 victory.

Weber followed his first start with another strong outing. He limited UPJ () to two runs over seven innings despite allowing 11 hits and a walk. Unfortunately, for his second straight start the Chestnut Hill College (2-6) lineup has not produced. The Griffins totaled three hits and recorded their only run in the sixth inning. Down 2-0, junior left fielder Alex Latchum (Warrington, PA) led-off the at-bat with a single to center field. Junior second baseman Jesse Daywalt (Phoenixville, PA) sacrificed the runner to second base, before a single from senior right fielder Dan Etherton (Princeton, NJ), and a walk from senior first baseman Mike Knipe (Sellersville, PA) loaded the bases. The Mountain Cats allowed the run to score on a fielder's choice to second base before ending the inning and silencing the Griffin rally, 2-1.
The Griffins looked to even the score in the second game, but late-inning miscues allowed the Mountain Cats to complete the doubleheader sweep. Daywalt hustled around the bases to score in the first inning, and both he and Latchum drove in runs in the second inning for an early 3-0 lead. The Mountain Cats trimmed it to 3-1 with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the second inning, but the Griffins reestablished their advantage at 6-1 with run-scoring hits from Etherton, Knipe, and senior catcher Andrew Donofry (Hatboro, PA) in the top of the fifth inning. Sophomore pitcher John Orr (Oceanside, NY) was doing fine on the hill until the Mountain Cats at-bat in the bottom of the sixth. Three straight singles scored one run and chased Orr from the game with two left aboard. Eight more Mountain Cats scored before the inning's final out leaving the Griffins to a 10-6 deficit in their last at-bat. Donofry opened the inning with a single, but the rest went in order.

The baseball team continues Florida Coast Spring Training with games against Ohio Valley University and West Virginia Wesleyan College on Thursday, March 10. The first contest is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. and the second to follow at 6:30 p.m.
