4/13/2011 8:41:19 PM

New Castle, DE – (4/13/2011) – Chestnut Hill College was first on the scoreboard in this afternoon's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest at Wilmington University. Unfortunately, it was the Wildcats who would earn victory by outscoring the Griffins 8-5 in each half, 16-10. Sophomore midfielder Lindsay Alexander (Huntingdon Valley, PA) led the Griffins with six goals, three ground balls, and seven draw controls.

Alexander netted the game's first goal to give Chestnut Hill College (4-8, 3-5) the initial advantage, 1-0 (22:16), but it lasted less than four minutes as Wilmington University (3-9, 2-5) tied the game with 18:30 remaining in the opening period, 1-1. The Wildcat strike began an 8-2 run that put the home team up 8-3 with 1:35 left until halftime. Alexander then offered a fleeting hope with two goals before intermission, 8-5; and when sophomore midfielder Erica Eaby (Lancaster, PA) found junior attack Kelly McKay (Perkasie, PA) just 1:56 into the second half the Griffins narrowed the gap to two, 8-6. However, another 8-2 Wildcat run extended the deficit to 16-8 and left the Griffins with 6:35 to work with. They netted two goals in that time, but it would not be enough to catch the Wildcats, 16-10.

Junior midfielder Eliza Burk (Perry Hall, MD) led the Wildcats with five goals, two assists, and three ground balls. Fellow midfielder, senior Danielle Niccoli (Sparrows Point, MD) also scored five goals while freshman goalkeeper Corinne Dries (Bear, DE) totaled eight saves and earned the win (3-9).

Sophomore midfielder Brianne Timony (Allentown, NJ) provided two goals and helped Alexander gain possession for the Griffins with six draw controls. McKay grabbed a ground ball and caused two turnovers in addition to her strike, while Eaby finished with two assists. Junior goalkeeper Jenn Delahanty (Staten Island, NY) made 12 saves in the loss (1-7).

The women's lacrosse team breaks from their CACC schedule to host St. Thomas Aquinas College in a 1:00 p.m. contest on Saturday, April 16.
