Philadelphia, PA – (4/16/2011) – Chestnut Hill College hosted Concordia College (NY) in an early morning Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) doubleheader today. Clipper pitching headlined the twin bill by holding the Griffins to three hits and driving the visitors to two 8-0 victories; the second in five innings.
Senior third baseman Shannan Burdziak (Elkins Park, PA) and sophomore pitcher Veronica Wilenta (Brick, NJ) each recorded a hit off senior Alexa Rosella (Howard Beach, NY), but that is all that Concordia College (17-16, 12-0) pitcher would allow as she struck out 12 Griffins on her way to a seven-inning shutout. Freshman designated player Rachel Cannata (Waldwick, NJ) homered in the Clipper fifth inning and totaled three runs-batted-in (RBI).
In the second game, Cannata took the mound for the Clippers. Her no-hit bid lasted until the fifth inning, when senior second baseman Janean Ciancia (Trainer, PA) led off Chestnut Hill College's (4-26, 1-17) last at-bat with a single through the left side. Unfortunately, the Griffins were unable to move the runner as Cannata finished her one-hit shutout by striking out two of the last three batters she faced.
The softball team continues their CACC home stand with a 3:00 p.m. doubleheader against Holy Family University on Tuesday, April 19.
