Philadelphia, PA – (4/20/2011) – GeorgianCourt University visited Chestnut Hill College for two Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contests this afternoon. The Griffins were overpowered by the Lions, who won the opener 7-1 and game two 12-3 in six innings. A solo shot from sophomore shortstop Cassie Benson (Rosamond, CA) accounted for the run in the first game, she had two hits in game two.

A couple doubles and an error led to a three-run first inning for Georgian Court University (20-18, 12-4). The Lions added two more in the fifth inning of the opener, with a couple more extra-base hits, before Benson put Chestnut Hill College (4-28, 1-19) on the scoreboard with her second homerun of the season. Unfortunately, the long ball was not enough to spark a rally as the Lions scored two runs in the ninth inning to ensure victory, 7-1. Sophomore third baseman Veronica Wilenta (Brick, NJ) recorded two hits.

Wilenta started the second game, but it did not go well. The Lions controlled a 5-0 lead after two innings and added another, 6-0, before the Griffins came to bat in the bottom of the fourth inning. Benson connected for a one-out single, freshman third baseman Sarah Mattaliano (Coral Springs, FL) followed with another base-hit and a with a throwing error by the Lion shortstop both runners were left in scoring position. A third single, this one from senior right fielder Janean Ciancia (Trainer, PA), scored two runs, 6-2; and with two more singles, and another error the Griffins third run to scored to leave the deficit at 6-3. The Lions recovered with four runs in the fifth inning, 10-3, and two more in the sixth inning ended it, 12-3.
