Lafayette Hill, PA – (4/2/2011) – Chestnut Hill College welcomed Georgian Court University to campus to conclude their Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) season series with the Lions. The Griffins trailed 8-2 at halftime, before the Lions claimed a 16-5 conference victory. Sophomore attack Nicole Covella (Vineland, NJ) and senior midfielder Jillian Sanger (Bowmansville, PA) led the Griffins with two goals apiece.
Georgian Court University (5-4, 5-0) sprinted out to a 3-0 lead in the first seven minutes (23:25) and netted a fourth goal before Covella put Chestnut Hill College (3-5, 2-3) on the scoreboard with an unassisted effort at 16:08, 4-1. Unfortunately, the Lions struck four times before halftime and even with Sanger scoring 28 seconds before intermission the Griffins still faced an 8-2 deficit. Following the break, the Lions lengthened their advantage to 13, 16-3. Sanger and Covella recorded the last two goals of the game to narrow the final margin to 11, 16-5.
Senior midfielder Lauren Conaty (Point Pleasant, NJ) led the Lions in scoring with five goals. Fellow senior, attack Ryan McGrath (Manasquan, NJ) was just as productive with four goals and two assists. Freshman midfielder Molly McCourt (Point Pleasant, NJ) and sophomore goalkeeper Jennifer Molzon (Howell, NJ) anchored the Lions. McCourt totaled two goals, four ground balls, and four caused turnovers, while Molzon earned the win (5-4) with six saves and four ground balls.
Covella added two ground balls, a draw, and two caused turnovers to her two goals while Sanger recorded a ground ball, two draws, and two caused turnovers in addition to her two goals. Sophomore midfielder Brianne Timony (Allentown, NJ) provided the other Griffin goal while
sophomore midfielder Lindsay Alexander (Huntingdon Valley, PA) was handful with five draws, three ground balls, and three caused turnovers. Junior goalkeeper Jenn Delahanty (Staten Island, NY) made ten saves, recovered and ground ball, and caused a turnover in the loss (1-4).
The women's lacrosse team closes their CACC series with Dominican College in a 4:00 p.m. road contest on Thursday, April 7.
