Philadelphia, PA – (4/7/2011) – Chestnut Hill College played two with the Lady Rams this afternoon as they visited Philadelphia University for a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) doubleheader. An overthrown triple gave the Lady Rams a 2-1, game two victory after they claimed the opener 10-0 in six innings. Sophomore centerfielder Allie Schempp (Clayton, NJ) platted the Griffins only run of the twin bill.

Junior pitcher Ali Schmidt (Cordova, MD) and sophomore pitcher Veronica Wilenta (Brick, NJ) dueled at the start of game two, but in the top of the fourth inning Chestnut Hill College (3-21, 0-12) broke the stalemate on Schempp's two-out single 1-0. Philadelphia University (10-12, 4-8) responded in the bottom of the inning netting one run on two singles, 1-1. The Lady Rams took the lead in the fifth inning with freshman left fielder Devin Griglik (Rockaway, NJ) hustling home on her overthrown triple. Schmidt did the rest, earning her second win of the day (7-7) by striking out 11 and allowing one run on three hits and three walks.

Schmidt allowed only two hits in the opener as senior shortstop Shannan Burdziak (Elkins Park, PA) recorded both of the Griffins singles. Freshman second baseman Meaghan Lewis (Binghamton, NY) led the Lady Ram offense to a ten-run performance with a third-inning solo homerun and four runs-batted-in (RBI).

The softball team returns home on Saturday, April 9, to continue their CACC schedule with a 1:00 p.m. doubleheader against Felician College.
