Baseball Returns to CACC Championship Tournament

New Haven, CT – (5/6/2011) – By sweeping Wilmington University in yesterday's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) doubleheader, Concordia College (NY) ensured Chestnut Hill College of a return to the CACC Championship Tournament. With a 10-10 CACC record Chestnut Hill College finished the regular season in a three-way tie with Felician College and the Clippers for the sixth and final seed in the upcoming CACC postseason. Holding the necessary tiebreakers, the Griffins were awarded position and will travel to Post University on Tuesday, May 10, for a 2:00 p.m. Opening Round contest with the Eagles.
 
Chestnut Hill College (16-21, 10-10) finished the season strong, winning six of their last seven games including two over, the awaiting, Post University (22-16, 12-8). The Griffins took two CACC contests from the Eagles after recognizing their inaugural class, who have been the ring leaders of the late season surge. Junior centerfielder Eric Blood (Perkasie, PA) was the hero in the first game, rewarding another great effort from the Griffin bullpen with a 5-4 win in a 16-inning opener. The Griffins completed the sweep with a 7-1 win in game two; senior right fielder Dan Etherton (Princeton, NJ) went 4-for-4 and junior pitcher Dan Morgan (Upper Darby, PA) was stellar with eight strike outs over eight innings of work. He allowed one run on six hits and a walk.
 
Those interested in supporting the Griffins in their return to CACC postseason are welcome to board “Big Griff” for a rallying voyage to Waterbury, Connecticut. Departure from the Chestnut Hill College tennis courts is scheduled for 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 10.
