Devils Outduel Griffins in CACC Match

Philadelphia, PA – (9/27/2011) – For the sixth straight match, Chestnut Hill College endured five sets of furious competition. Tonight's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) match finished in a 3-2 (25-22, 19-25, 25-22, 22-25, 7-15) loss to the University of the Sciences, who rallied to win the final two sets behind 26 kills and 25 digs from freshman outside hitter Amanda DeAngelo (Vestal, NY).
 
Chestnut Hill College (7-8, 2-3) held a 2-1 set advantage after winning the first and third frames by 25-22 finals. Unfortunately, the University of the Sciences (1-11, 1-5) was able to use their home court advantage to rally for a 25-22 win in the fourth set and a 15-7 win in the fifth, and deciding, set.
 
Fellow freshman, middle blocker Rachel Martin (Troy, NY) helped DeAngelo lead the Devil offense with 17 kills. Freshman Kaileen Bevenour (Sicklerville, NJ) and sophomore Diana Solomon (East Islip, NY) took turns at setter, combining for 47 assists. Solomon also recorded 13 digs and eight blocks to help DeAngelo on defense. Junior libero Stacey Wooden (Levittown, PA) pitched in with 24 digs.
 
Sophomore outside hitter Alex DePalma (Shillington, PA) matched DeAngleo's 20-20 performance with the first such performance of her collegiate career; 21 kills and 29 digs. Both totals were career-highs for DePalma as well. Freshman right side Katie Schock (Allentown, PA) and freshman setter Sidney Chukuntarod (San Francisco, CA) helped out offensively with 11 kills and 41 assists, respectively. On defense, junior libero Liz DiGregorio (Conshohocken, PA) hustled to 38 digs. She was helped by DePalma's play, 15 digs from Chukuntarod, 13 digs from sophomore defensive specialist Sarah Mattaliano (Coral Springs, FL), and six team blocks.  
 
The women's volleyball returns home for their next CACC match; a 7:00 p.m. opening serve on Thursday, September 29.
