Rebounding Earns Tigers Season Split With Griffins

Box Score Philadelphia, PA – (1/10/2012) – Chestnut Hill College engaged Holy Family University in another nail-biting matchup of Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) South Division rivals this evening. With only a possession separating the opponents, it was a 43-28 Tiger rebounding advantage that would carry the home team to victory, 70-67. Senior guard Brandon Williams (Philadelphia, PA) led the Griffins with a comprehensive performance; 19 points, seven rebounds, seven assists, a block, and a steal.
 
Holy Family University (7-7, 3-3) took advantage of their home court, harnessing a 43-28 rebounding advantage and working their way to the free throw line, 17-of-25 (68.0%), en route to the conference win. Chestnut Hill College (12-6, 5-1) owned a two-point lead, 67-65, heading to the final minute of play (1:12), but an offensive rebound allowed the Tigers to gain ground with a free throw from sophomore guard Alberto Munoz (Morrisville, NC), 67-66 (0:53), before a tip-in from senior center Rickie Crews (Deptford, NJ) handed the home team a 68-67 lead with 11 seconds to play. The Griffins final two, three-point attempts missed their mark and following game-clinching free throws ensured the Tigers of victory.
 
Crews led the Tigers with 21 points, but it was 16 points and 13 rebounds from Munoz that carried them to the win. Junior guard Angel Ayala (Allentown, PA) contributed eight points, ten rebounds, and four assists, while sophomore guard Rashaad Sneed (Durham, NC) was the third Tigers in double-digit rebounds; he grabbed ten as well.
 
Williams shot 8-of-15 (53.3%) from the field, 2-of-5 (40.0%) from beyond the arch, and 1-of-3 (33.3%) from the free throw line in his best scoring performance of the season. He was supported by 17 points and four rebounds from junior guard Mark DiRugeris Jr. (Woodbury, NJ) and ten points and five assists from  freshman guard Luke Dickson (Pitman, NJ).
 
The men's basketball team welcomes Philadelphia University to campus on Monday, January 16, for their next CACC contest. Tip-off is scheduled for 8:00p.m.
