Lakewood, NJ – (3/20/2012) – Georgian Court University put Chestnut Hill College in a tough spot, scoring the first four goals of this afternoon's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest, before claiming a 14-8 victory on their home field. The Griffins were led by junior midfielder
Brianne Timony (Allentown, NJ), who record two goals in addition to two ground balls and three draw controls.
Georgian Court University (3-1, 2-0) was aggressive off the opening draw, recording goals on their first three free position attempts to control a 3-0 lead only 7:35 into the contest. A fourth Lion goal came before Chestnut Hill College (0-3, 0-2) answered, doing so on a connection from sophomore defenseman
KarlaAne Klouda (Belvidere NJ) to Timony at 18:34, 4-1. After a Lion goal, 5-1, Timony deposited an unassisted tally, 5-2 and she got support later in the period from senior attack
Kelly McKay (Perkasie, PA) and junior attack
Christina Squillante (Kings Park, NY), but the Lions took a 9-4 lead into halftime. Twenty seconds after the initial second half draw (24:40), junior midfielder
Erica Eaby (Lancaster, PA) cut the margin to four, 9-5, but the deficit would shrink no further as the Lions outscored the Griffins 5-3 the rest of the way, 14-8.
Midfielders, sophomore Stephanie Gallo (Oceanport, NJ) and junior Corinne Coyle (Brick, NJ) led the Lions with six points apiece. Coyle totaled four goals, two assists, in addition to three ground balls, and three draw controls while Gallo added three draw controls and a caused turnover to her goal and five assists. In goal, freshman Amanda Cathcart (Wilmington, DE) made ten saves and caused a turnover in the win (3-1).
For the Griffins, Squillante matched Timony's offensive production with two goals of her own. McKay grabbed five draws in addition to her goal, while Eaby hustled to three draws to compliment her two-point performance. Junior midfielder
Bobbie Chukuntarod (San Francisco, CA) and sophomore attack
Kelly Campbell (Hatboro, PA) accounted for the other Griffin goals, while junior goalkeeper
Jenn Delahanty (Staten Island, NY) took the loss (0-3) despite making 20 saves.
The women's lacrosse team returns home for a break from CACC play as they host Kutztown University in 4:00 p.m. contest on Thursday, March 22.
