Seton Hill University Steals Win In Meeting of Ranked ECC Griffins

Lafayette Hill, PA – (3/31/2012) – In a highly competitive meeting of up and coming East Coast Conference (ECC) Griffins, #8 Chestnut Hill College (CHC) hosted #9 Seton Hill University (SHU) for a misty afternoon of lacrosse. SHU held a slight 3-2 lead at halftime, which they advanced to a 4-2 advantage heading to the final frame, where an early man-up tally put the game out of CHC's reach, 7-3.
 
Sophomore attack Dylan Lefebrve (Regina, Saskatchewan) put Seton Hill University (6-3, 3-2) on the scoreboard first with an unassisted tally an 11:37 of the first quarter, 1-0. Chestnut Hill College (6-3, 3-2) pressured the SHU box looking to even the score, they eventually did so on a diving deposit from junior midfielder D.J. Klusaritz (Slatington, PA), 1-1. CHC took their only lead of the contest a 7:18 of the second quarter when junior midfielder Mike Duddy (Toms River, NJ) found the back of the net, 2-1. SHU answered with two goals, the first was unassisted from sophomore attack Matt Delmonico (Port Moody, British Columbia) at 5:56, 2-2, and the second came off a Lefebrve feed that found senior midfielder Kevin Welty (Scott Township, PA) at 2:03 to give SHU back the lead for halftime, 3-2. After the break, SHU controlled play. They scored the only goal of the third quarter, 4-2, and the first goal of the fourth quarter on a man-up opportunity at 11:21, 5-2. Sophomore attack Mike Melnychenko (St. Catharines, Ontario) gave CHC one last hope with an unassisted goal a6:06, 5-3, but junior midfielder James Delaney (Port Coquitlam, British Columbia) scored the first of two SHU insurance goals with 1:16 to play, 6-3. He assisted the second with only 12 ticks left (0:12), 7-3.
 
Delany lead SHU, adding two assists, three ground balls, and a caused turnover to his two goals. Delmonico also totaled two goals and grabbed three ground balls, while forcing two CHC turnovers. Sophomore midfielder Jimmy Cogley (Peters Township, PA) won 7-of-12 (.583) in the face-off circle and grabbed six ground balls to help SHU hold possession for a majority of the contest. In goal, junior Chris Ilse (Vestal, NY) made seven saves and recovered two ground balls to earn the win (6-3).
 
Klusaritz, Melnychenko, and Duddy accounted for the only CHC points. Duddy added two ground balls and caused a turnover to his goal for the Griffins best all around performance. Defensively, CHC was led by the play of juniors, Tom Carfagna (Laurys Station, PA) and Donald Lynch III (Mullica Hill, NJ), and sophomore Chris Schaffer (Lititz, PA). Carfagna recovered eight ground balls and caused a turnover, while Lynch and Schaffer recorded three caused turnovers and a ground ball each. Junior goalkeeper Dakota Maurer (Lititz, PA) made 11 saves and hustled to five ground balls in the loss (6-3)
 
The men's lacrosse team continues ECC play with another ranked rival, when the host #7 New York Institute of Technology in a 7:00 p.m. contest on Saturday, April 7.
