4/17/2012 9:06:00 PM

Philadelphia, PA – (4/17/2012) – Chestnut Hill College battled Holy Family University in another spirited Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest this afternoon. The Tigers used a series of runs to hold a 7-3 halftime advantage and build 13-5 lead, before sustaining a late Griffin run for a 13-9 win. Junior midfielder Lindsay Alexander (Huntingdon Valley, PA) led the Griffins with three goals and two draw controls.

Alexander gave Chestnut Hill College (2-10, 2-7) the initial lead with an unassisted goal just 2:35 after the opening draw, 1-0. Holy Family University (9-4, 8-1) scored the next four goals, 4-1, three coming by way of free position opportunities, as the Tigers took the ball aggressively to the Griffin goal. Alexander scored another at 12:57 in an attempt to slow the Tigers run, 4-2, but the home team continued to control play to the intermission and outscored the Griffins to a 7-3 halftime score. Scoring came quickly in the second half with the Tigers getting two goals, one at 29:18 and another at 28:37, 9-3, before the Griffins answered on free position goals from senior attack Kelly McKay (Perkasie, PA), 9-4 (28:08), and junior midfielder Brianne Timony (Allentown, NJ), 9-5 (25:49). The Tigers immediately responded to Timony's tally and expanded on their lead with a four-goal run to lead 13-5 with 10:27 remaining. The Griffins looked to rally late with Alexander scoring at 6:13, 13-6, junior attack Nicole Covella (Vineland, NJ) striking at 1:57, 13-7, junior attack Christina Squillante (Kings Park, NY) following at 1:30, 13-8, and Timony beating the clock, 13-9 (0:02), but the rally would not be enough to snare the Tigers.

In a game with 22 goals, eight via free position, junior midfielder Stephanie McNesby (Philadelphia, PA) led all players with four. She also grabbed two ground balls, eight draws, and caused a turnover for the Tigers. She was helped by three goals from senior midfielder Samantha Cornely (Washington Twp., NJ) and a two-goal game from freshman midfielder Sarah Kelly (Washington Twp. NJ). In goal, senior Melissa Jenkins (Glenolden, PA) earned the win (9-4) with 12 saves.

McKay and Timony helped Alexander lead the Griffin effort with two goals apiece. Timony also hustled to two draws. Junior goalkeeper Jenn Delahanty (Staten Island, NY) made 14 saves in the loss (2-10).

The women's lacrosse team returns to Victory Field #1 to host Philadelphia University in a 4:00 p.m. CACC contest on Thursday, April 19.
