Griffins Strike Early, Lady Rams Strike Most

Lafayette Hill, PA – (4/17/2012) – Chestnut Hill College owned a 3-2 lead over Philadelphia University after senior attack Kelly McKay (Perkasie, PA) scored back-to-back goals just past the 17-minute mark of the first half. The Lady Rams answered quickly and separated from the Griffins for 9-5 halftime lead, before capturing the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) win on a 22-12 final with a 13-7 second-half spread. Junior attack Christina Squillante (Kings Park, NY) led the Griffin effort with four goals.

Philadelphia University (7-8, 6-4) stole control of the contest midway through the opening period. Following McKay's scores, sophomore midfielder Carli DiCioccio (Bordentown, NJ) ignited the Lady Ram offense, first finding senior midfielder Kalin Hodel (West Chester, OH) to tie the contest 3-3 at 16:14 and then scoring the go-ahead goal on a free position opportunity at 14:46, 4-3. Three more Lady Ram goals followed pushing the visitors to a 7-3 with 12:16 left in the first half, but junior midfielder Brianne Timony (Allentown, NJ) and Squillante scored back-to-back goals before the ten-minute mark (10:37 and 10:13) to bring Chestnut Hill College (2-11, 2-8) back within three, 7-4. Unfortunately, that would be as close as the Griffins would come with the Lady Rams capping the halftime break with a five-goal run and outscoring the Griffins 13-7 in the closing period, 22-12.

DiCiccio and Hodel helped get the Lady Ram offense going, but it was sophomore attack Emily Ray (Bedminster, NJ), senior midfielder Caribeth Shappell (Lancaster, PA), and senior attack Taylor Peltzer (Holland, PA) who led the way. Ray totaled eight points on seven goals and an assist, Peltzer scored five goals, and Shappell captained the effort with four goals, two assists, two ground balls, 11 draw controls, and three caused turnovers. Junior goalkeeper Ellen Wright (Salem, VA) earned the win (7-8) with nine saves for the Lady Rams.

The Griffins gave a balanced effort with Squillante, McKay, Timony, and junior midfielder Erica Eaby (Lancaster, PA) headlining the production. Timony scored three times and McKay twice, both hustled to four draws. Eaby recorded a goal and an assist to go along with two ground balls, and three draws. Despite the loss (2-11), junior goalkeeper Jenn Delahanty (Staten Island, NY) made ten saves and recovered four ground balls.

The women's lacrosse team continues their CACC schedule at home with a 4:00 p.m. contest against Georgian Court University on Saturday, April 21.
