Lafayette Hill, PA – (4/21/2012) – Georgian Court University (GCU) used a mid-first half run to surpass Chestnut Hill College for a 20-16 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) win in this afternoon's contest at Victory Field #1. Senior attack Kelly McKay (Perkasie, PA) looked to fuel a second-half Griffin comeback, but the effort was snubbed by the play of sophomore midfielder Molly McCourt (Pt. Pleasant, NJ) who spirited the Lions' game-winning, six-goal run.
 
McKay helped junior attack Nicole Covella (Vineland, NJ) grab Chestnut Hill College (2-12, 2-9) an early lead. Covella scored the contest's first tally at 28:22, 1-0, with a free position goal and McKay followed with an unassisted goal less than two minutes later (26:40), 2-0. Georgian Court University (10-6, 9-3) evened the affair six minutes later, 2-2 (20:33), only for Covella and McKay to push the Griffins back ahead, 5-2, with 16:45 remaining in the opening half. The sides then exchanged goals, 6-3, before a seven-goal Lion run reversed fortunes and put the visitors up 10-6. Sophomore midfielder Stephanie Gallo (Oceanport, NJ) kept the Lions on top early in the second half and McCourt finished the Griffins off as a 10-10 second-half spread left the final in the Lions favor, 20-16.
 
McCourt led the Lions with six goals, a ground ball, and a draw control. She was supported by junior midfielder Corinne Coyle (Brick, NJ) and junior attack Samantha Shaw (Howell, NJ); Coyle offering three goals, two assists, and five draws, and Shaw recording two goals and two assists. Sophomore midfielder Catherine Dee (Howell, NJ) helped the Lions maintain possession with nine draws, two ground balls, and two caused turnovers. She also scored twice. Freshman goalkeeper Amanda Cathcart (Wilmington, DE) earned the win (10-6) with ten saves and a ground ball.
 
McKay totaled a season-high, seven points to lead the Griffins. She scored six goals and helped Covella on one of hers. Covella finished with six goals, two ground balls, two draw controls, and three caused turnovers. In goal, junior Jenn Delahanty (Staten Island, NY) took the loss (2-12) despite 14 saves, a ground ball, and a caused turnover.
 
The women's lacrosse team takes a late break from their CACC schedule to at Millersville University in a 4:00 p.m. contest on Monday, April 23.
