Griffin Get Back On Track with Win over Eagles

Lafayette Hill, PA – (4/5/2012) – With health now on their side, the Chestnut Hill College women's lacrosse team looked refreshed as they cruised to a 17-4 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) win over Post University this evening. In a true team effort, six Griffins recorded at least three points while junior goalkeeper Jenn Delahanty (Staten Island, NY) made seven saves and caused a turnover in her second win of the year (2-7).
 
Four unassisted goals got Chestnut Hill College (2-7, 2-4) rolling in the opening half, the first coming from junior midfielder Lindsay Alexander (Huntingdon Valley, PA) at 26:21, 1-0, the next two from junior attack Nicole Covella (Vineland, NJ) at 18:11, 2-0, and 17:52, 3-0, and the last from junior midfielder Erica Eaby (Lancaster, PA) at 17:19, 4-0. The Griffins scored a fifth goal only 18 seconds later, 17:01 when Alexander dished the ball to an open, junior attack, Christina Squillante (Kings Park, NY) on the Post University (1-10, 0-8) doorstep, 5-0. The Eagles finally answered at 14:07, 5-1, and they scored once more (10:53), 6-2, as they slowed the Griffins heading to halftime, 7-2. However, at the start of the second half, the Griffin goals resumed with junior midfielder Brianne Timony (Allentown, NJ) and senior attack Kelly McKay (Perkasie, PA) spurring them on a 9-0 run that would provide a 16-2 lead with 14:39 on the scoreboard and a running game clock. The Eagles could only muster two scores before the final horn while Timony deposited her final goal to put the final spread at 17-4.
 
Junior midfielder Morgan Kanavy (Syracuse, NY) led the Eagles with two goals, a ground ball, and six draws. She was supported by senior midfielder Mallory Michalak (Meriden, CT), who hustled for a goal, three ground balls, a draw, and three caused turnovers. In goal, senior Michelle Chadwick (Miami, FL) made six saves while grabbing two ground balls and causing a turnover in the loss (1-10).
 
Covella and McKay each recorded three goals, but Timony led the Griffin scoring with four tallies. Sophomore attack Kelly Campbell (Hatboro, PA) and Eaby each totaled three points with two goals and an assist, while Alexander recorded her three points with a goal and two assists. Freshman defender Mary Markowski (Parkton, MD) and Squillante were responsible for the other goals; Squillante also helped the Griffins keep possession with three ground balls, three draws, and three caused turnovers. In addition to her offensive contribution, Campbell was the Griffins defensive leader with five caused turnovers and seven ground balls.    
 
The women's lacrosse team plays their next CACC contest at Wilmington University on Wednesday, April 11. Opening draw is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
