Box Score Philadelphia, Pa. – (1/23/2013) – The efficient and effective play of #11 Holy Family University overshadowed a milestone night for Chestnut Hill College's senior forward
Lindsay Alexander (Huntingdon Valley, Pa.), as the Tigers topped the Griffins 86-53 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest. Alexander became the sixth member of the program's 1,000 career-points club with an early second half three-point basket.
Chestnut Hill College (2-14, 0-9) allowed Holy Family University (16-2, 10-1) to get comfortable at the Sorgenti Arena as the Tigers roared out of the gate. Nearly doubling the Griffins success from the field (48.6% – 25.0%) and controlling a 27-14 first-half rebounding advantage, the Tigers established an 11-point lead, 14-3, in the opening five minutes and carried a 24-point lead, 44-20, into the locker rooms. When action resumed in the second half, Sorgenti Arena was in full support of Alexander's milestone effort. As the game clock approached the 18-minute mark (18:16), freshman guard
Brittany McDonough (Brooklyn, N.Y.) found Alexander for an historical three-point basket that left the Griffin down 27 points, 50-23. Unfortunately, the play of the Tigers top five kept the visitors out of reach in an 86-53 final.
Senior center Erin Mann (West Chester, Pa.) led the Tigers and recorded with game-high 18 points on 7-of-9 (77.8%) shooting and a perfect night at the free throw line (4-of-4, 100.0%). She also provided five rebounds, three assists, three steals, and four blocks. Three other Tigers finished in double figures. Junior guard Maggie Serratelli (Bethlehem, Pa.) paced the Tigers in the first half and she finished the evening with 17 points, senior guard Ana Cruz (Lititz, Pa.) had 13 points, and junior guard Mary Ellen McCollum (Abington, Pa.) contributed ten points. Senior forward Kelly Brady (Ocean City, N.J.) hauled down 11 rebounds.
Off the bench, sophomore guard
Lila Jones (Lansdale, Pa.) and senior guard
Latoya Laing (Snellville, Ga.) generated some late offense for the Griffins. Jones shot 6-of-9 (66.7%) from the field and 2-of-2 (100.0%) at the free throw line to lead the Griffins with 14 points. Laing provided some perimeter play as she hit 3-of-5 (60.0%) from long distance to finish 11 points. Alexander finished the affair with six points, two rebounds, and an assist.
The women's basketball team continues their CACC
schedule on Saturday, January 26, when they travel to Dominican College for a 1:00 p.m. contest.
