10/1/2013 11:44:00 PM

Box Score Philadelphia, Pa. - (10/1/2013) – Each side had their difficulties in this evening match, but after righting the ship in the second set, Chestnut Hill College was unable to keep momentum in a 3-1 (22-25, 25-21, 15-25, 22-25) loss to Mercy College. Freshman outside hitter Madison McBride (Long Beach, Calif.) scored 17 of the Griffins points in a 16-kill, 16-dig performance.

The match was tight from start to finish, minus the third set. The opening frame tied for the last time at 17-17, but Chestnut Hill College (4-10) appeared to be just off their mark, missing several opportunities down the stretch in the 25-22 Mercy College (6-6) first set. The roles reversed in the second set with the Griffins rallying from an early 10-7 deficit to a 25-21 win thanks to a 10-3 run that left the home side up 17-13 after a Maverick timeout. Unfortunately, the Mavericks 25-15 third-set victory derailed the Griffins momentum, leaving the home team to a 3-1 demise after a 25-22 Maverick victory in the fourth frame.

Junior outside hitter Brenda White (Gardnerville, Nev.) led all participants with 22 kills and a .429 (22K-4E-42TA) hitting percentage. She also hustled to 15 digs and assisted on three blocks. Junior setter McKenna Ronan (Chandler, Ariz.) offered 34 assists, two aces, ten digs and a block to the Mavericks winning effort. Senior libero Mallorie Hopkins (Commerce, Calif.) captained the defense with 21 digs.

McBride's tenth double-double of the season was accompanied by one ace and two assists. She was complimented by eight-kill performances from sophomore middle hitter Rachel Biro (Nazareth, Pa.) and senior outside hitter Alexandra DePalma (Shillington, Pa.), all benefitting the 36 assists of freshman setter Emily Drew (Ringoes, N.J.). DePalma also recorded 19 digs and a block while freshman libero Regina Trabosh (Norristown, Pa.) hustled to 15 digs.

The women's volleyball team concludes their recent home stand and resumes their Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) tomorrow, Wednesday, October 2, when they host the University of the Sciences (USciences) in a 7:00 p.m. Side-out Foundation Dig Pink match.
