Box Score Newark, Del. - (10/29/2013) – Coming down the final stretch of their Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) schedule, Chestnut Hill College visited Wilmington University this evening to complete their league series with the Wildcats. The home team met the Griffins with a strong showing as they claimed the match on a 3-0 (25-20, 25-18, 25-18) final. Junior right side
Kaitlyn Schock (Allentown, Pa.) and freshman libero
Regina Trabosh (Norristown, Pa.) led the Griffin effort, which played well early and late, but not well enough to deny the Wildcats.
Chestnut Hill College (7-17, 5-8) was on the Wildcats heels in the opening set, trailing Wilmington University (19-9, 14-2) by one as late as 19-18 thanks Schock's play on the right side. Unfortunately, a 6-2 Wildcat run led by sophomore outside hitter Kaitlin DiGiacinto (Glen Burnie, Md.) sparked the home team for a 25-20 win. A mid second set run would put the Wildcats up 20-10, but senior outside hitter
Alexandra DePalma (Shillington, Pa.) would inspire a late Griffin showing that would leave them just shy in a 25-18 final. The third set would also go in the Wildcats favor, by the same final, 25-18, as the rallying Griffins led by as many as four, 7-3, and held on as late as 15-14, before giving way to the Wildcats 10-4 closing run.
DiGiacinto led the Wildcats with ten kills. She fed off the two-headed direction of junior setter Kasey Couch (Woodbine, Md.) and sophomore opposite Alex Siolos (East Moriches, N.Y.), who combined for 28 assists. Siolos also got involved in the Wildcats defensive effort, making six blocks along with freshman middle hitter Tia Williams (Abingdon, Md.). Sophomore defensive specialist Shelby Henderson (Wilmington, Del.) made 23 digs.
Schock headlined the Griffin offense with ten kills on a .286 (10K-2E-28TA) hitting percentage. She also made a block to help Trabosh, who captained the defensive effort with 15 digs. Trabosh also scored two aces. Freshman setter
Emily Drew (Ringoes, N.J.) was a help on both sides of the net as well, issuing 26 assists and making nine digs. DePalma finished with six kills and a team-high 20 digs with additional reinforcement coming from senior defensive specialist
Sarah Mattaliano (Coral Springs, Fla.) and sophomore defensive specialist
Deanna Bianchini (Blue Bell, Pa.); both hustled to 11 digs.
The women's volleyball team returns home for a 5:00 p.m. CACC match on Friday, November 1, when they host Bloomfield College for Hawaiian Night.
