Madison McBride (Long Beach, Calif.) powered the Griffins attack, which was fueled by 44 assists from freshman setter
Emily Drew (Ringoes, N.J.) and a united defensive effort.
Drew spread the ball around in the opening set; helping Chestnut Hill College (3-7) build a 10-7 advantage before Queens College (4-1) recovered for a 14-12 lead and forced the Griffins into their first timeout. But after the break, a 5-1 Griffins run put the home side back up 17-15. From there, the set remained neck-and-neck until the Griffins separated for the 28-26 win on back-to-back Knight errors. The second set was a run away for the Knights, who regained momentum with a 25-17 victory and tied the match at 1-1. Another Knight win came in the third set, 25-21, courtesy of the effort of sophomore right side Arielle DiCocco (Blue Port, N.Y.), who killed seven points in the frame, 2-1. With their backs against the wall, the Griffins awoke in the fourth set, leading the Knights the whole way and separating for a 25-18 win on a 5-1 run on the play of DePalma and Drew, 2-2. In the fifth set, the Griffins took the court sensing a win was in their future. They stayed ahead by a couple points early, 8-6, and after an exchange of points McBride finished the Knights off with four of the evening's final five points, 15-9.
DiCocco totaled 15 points, but junior middle blocker Francesca Indoni (Rome, Italy) was the Knights best hitter with 14 kills on a .234 (14K-3E-47TA) hitting percentage. She also recorded 16 digs and two blocks. The Knights totaled eight team blocks, while sophomore libero Xhesi Domi (Selden, N.Y.) hustled to 22 digs.
DePalma and McBride each killed for season-highs; DePalma with 18 kills and McBride with 17 kills on a .333 (17K-4E-39TA) hitting percentage. Sophomore middle hitter
Rachel Biro (Nazareth, Pa.) also benefitted from Drew's direction with 10 kills on a team-best .474 (10K-1E-19TA) hitting percentage. DePalma and McBride completed their double-doubles with 15 digs and 14 digs, respectively. Drew dug another 12 balls, senior defensive specialist
Sarah Mattaliano (Coral Springs, Fla.) recorded ten more, but it was freshman libero
Regina Trabosh (Norristown, Pa.) who was the center of the Griffins defense with 24 digs.
