Box Score Philadelphia, Pa. - (1/14/2014) – Pandemonium erupted onto the court in tonight's 58-56 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) victory, which came to a dramatic conclusion when a last-second Goldey-Beacom College in-bound pass skipped off junior guard
Christian Walck (Lancaster, Pa.), found the hands of sophomore guard
Dexter Harris (Swedesboro, N.J.), who touched it back to Walck for the game-winning layup. Senior center
Seamus Radtke (Philadelphia, Pa.) and graduate guard
Taylor Trevisan (West Chester, Pa.) offered double-double efforts while Walck led Chestnut Hill College with his 14 points, eight rebounds, three assists, and a steal.
Goldey-Beacom College (6-9, 4-5) built a 12-point lead, 23-11, before the seven-minute mark of the first half (7:13), but by the break Chestnut Hill College (6-10, 4-5) had whittled the deficit to three points, 30-27, with an inside-out combination of Radtke and freshman guard
Billy Cassidy (Primos, Pa.). The Lightning looked to reestablish their buffer after halftime and would recover their advantage to eight points, 37-29, five minutes in (15:24), but a Walck-inspired 13-4 run brought the Griffins the lead, 42-41, on a rebound-dunk from freshman
Carson Murphy (Mohawk, N.Y.) just past the ten-minute mark (9:42). A Lightning three-point play briefly stalled the Griffin run, 44-42, but Trevisan would reinvigorate the home team to a 54-48 lead with 3:28 left in regulation. With one last push the Lightning almost ensured overtime, tying the affair before the final minute, 56-56 (1:06), and forcing the Griffins into a shot-clock violation, before the Walck and Harris heroics rewarded the home team with a last-second, 58-56 triumph.
Freshman guard Donte McGill (Newark, Del.) led the Lightning with 24 points, seven rebounds, and a block. Fellow freshman guard Parris Ridgeway-Higgs (New Castle, Del.) helped with ten points, while junior center Chris Gebhart (Cherry Hill, N.J.) headlined their defensive effort with seven rebounds, two blocks, and a steal.
Walck's 14 points, eight rebounds, three assists, and a steal directed the Griffins to victory, but the effort was well supported by the contributions of Radtke and Trevisan. Radtke finished with 14 points, 11 rebounds, two blocks, and a steal, while Trevisan went for 11 points, 11 rebounds, a block, and three steal in his first collegiate double-double.
The men's basketball team visits Concordia College (NY) on Saturday, January 25, for their next CACC contest. Tip-off is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
