Box Score Philadelphia, Pa. – (11/5/2014) – With Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) postseason at stake, emotions ran high at the Holy Family University's Campus Center. The Tigers rallied to take the opening set, 25-21, but the Griffins evened the affair by winning a tightly-played second set 25-23. Unfortunately, the home team paced the Griffins through the third, 25-23, and fourth set, 25-18, in order to earn the critical league win by a 3-1 final. Sophomore outside hitter

The opening set tied at 9-9 and 19-19 with Chestnut Hill College (13-16, 8-10) leading Holy Family University (12-17, 10-8) through a pair of timeouts. After the later pause, the Griffins quickly grabbed a 21-19 advantage before a bad serve and a couple of Tiger aces launched the home team on a terminal 6-0 run, 1-0. The Griffins took up the torch again in the second set, leading the home team to a 9-9 tie, a 15-13 advantage, and a 23-23 tie before a pair of Tiger errors evened the match at 1-1 (25-23). Much weighed on the outcome of the third set, which saw the Tigers establish a 15-7 edge before holding off an enduring Griffins rally that ran out of time in a 25-23 decision, 2-1. The momentum was enough for the Tigers take the fourth set as well, leading the Griffins all the way in a 25-18 final, 3-1.
Junior right side Rachel Johnson (New Lenox, Ill.) totaled 22 kills while junior outside hitter Emma Herring (Newtown, Conn.) connected for 11 kills on a versatile effort from senior setter Devyn Ingram (King of Prussia, Pa.). Ingram assisted on 41 kills in addition to scoring an ace and hustling for 16 digs and four blocks. Four others recorded double-digit digs, led by sophomore libero Laura Tamas (Rhode-St-Genese, Belgium), who recorded 26 digs while her teammates combined for 12 team blocks.
Biro finished with slightly better numbers than McBride, totaling 16 of their combined 30 kills on a .148 (16K-8E-54TA) hitting percentage. She also recorded six digs and three blocks while McBride added to her 14 kills with 20 digs and a block. Tamsing added an ace and 15 digs to her play at the point. Sophomore libero
Regina Trabosh (Norristown, Pa.) led five Griffins who finished with double-digit digs with her 26; meanwhile freshman middle hitter
Melissa Shunk (Laguna Niguel, Calif.) totaled 3.5 of the team's seven-block effort.
The women's volleyball team concludes their 2014 schedule with their final CACC contest, which is scheduled for a 1:00 p.m. opening serve on Saturday, November 8. Prior to the match the College's Department of Athletics will recognize the graduating classes from the women's volleyball and cross country programs in annual Senior Day proceedings.
