Box Score 2 Philadelphia, Pa. – (3/22/2014) – Chestnut Hill College batted around with two outs to lead 6-0 after the first inning of today second Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) against Nyack College. Senior first baseman
Giana Cavallo (Turnersville, N.J.) homered in that inning and did so again to lead off a three-run fourth inning that reestablished the Griffin lead at 10-4 in an eventual 12-4, six-inning contest. The Warriors scored early to win the opener by a 4-2 final.
Nyack College (1-11, 1-3) scored the first runs of the doubleheader with a couple first-inning hits and a hit batsman producing a 3-0 lead. Chestnut Hill College (1-9, 1-1) took one run off in the bottom of the frame with freshman
Ashleigh Sharp (Dresher, Pa.) singling through the left side and sophomore catcher
Megan Kehr (Exton, Pa.) doubling to left to help Sharp complete the cycle, 3-1. Each side added a tally in the third inning, 4-2, and that is where the score would stay until the final out. Sharp finished 2-for-3 with two runs.
The Griffins got revenge in the second game, posting six first-inning runs on the scoreboard in a 12-4, six-inning victory. Cavallo's homer was followed by three singles a walk, a beanball, and a two-run double to centerfield form sophomore left fielder
Nicole Carney (Ontario, Calif.), 6-0. Sophomore second baseman
Julie Heaton (Berlin, N.J.) singled in another Griffin run in the second inning, 7-0, but the a four-run Warrior fourth inning almost turned the tide, 7-4. Fortunately, Cavallo led off the bottom of the frame with a homerun to centerfield, 8-4, and three batters later Heaton doubled in two more Griffins for a 10-4 lead. The opportunity to end the contest early came in the sixth inning, when a Warrior error and a passed ball put Heaton on second base. Two batters later sophomore right fielder
Courtney Dayter (Cohoes, N.Y.) ended the game early with a two-run, walk-off homerun to right field. Cavallo and Heaton each recorded three hits and combined to knock in seven runs.
The softball team continues their CACC schedule tomorrow, Sunday, March 23, with a 12:00 p.m. doubleheader at Post University.
