3/23/2014 10:30:00 PM

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Waterbury, Conn. – (3/23/2014) – Taking advantage of the playable weather, Chestnut Hill College visited Post University for an afternoon Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) doubleheader today. Sophomore right fielder Courtney Dayter (Cohoes, N.Y.) provided the power early, but a late Eagle rally registered a 7-5 win and spurred the home team for a 9-3 win in game two where sophomore shortstop Laura Eidam (South Salem, N.Y.) brought home two of the Griffins runs with three hits (3-for-4).

Dayter homered for two runs in the top of the second inning of the opener and she singled in a third run to give Chestnut Hill College (1-11, 1-3) a 3-1 fourth-inning lead over Post University (6-7, 4-0). But the Eagles had two-out, two-run rallies in the fourth, 3-3, and sixth innings, 5-3, before consecutive seventh-inning singles from sophomore left fielder Nicole Carney (Ontario, Calif.), freshman center fielder Ashleigh Sharp (Dresher, Pa.), and sophomore catcher Megan Kehr (Exton, Pa.) tied the contest for the home team's final at-bat, 5-5. Unfortunately, Griffins succumb to another two-out Eagle rally as they won the opening affair in walk-off fashion, 7-5.

The Eagles momentum helped them own a 7-1 lead after three innings of game two. The Griffins interrupted the run when Dayter led off the fourth inning with a double and Eidam followed with a homer, closing the gap to 7-3. Unfortunately, that is as close as the Griffins would get as the Eagles scored twice in the sixth inning to win the contest 9-3.

The softball team returns to campus to and breaks from their CACC schedule to make up a doubleheader with West Chester University on Wednesday, March 26. The first contest is scheduled for a 3:00 p.m. start.
