O’Leary Leads Griffins against Lions In Rain-Soaked CACC Affair

Box Score Lafayette Hill, Pa. - (3/29/2014) – Through wind and rain Chestnut Hill College battled Georgian Court University in a tightly played Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) affair. Freshman midfielder Jacklyn O'Leary (East Meadow, N.Y.) triggered a five-goal run that gave the Griffins a first half lead and she tied the game with a little more than five minutes left, but the Lions were the last to score in a 9-8 final.
 
Georgian Court University (8-2, 6-0) scored the first three goals of the fray, but at 16:10 O'Leary's successful free position goal spirited Chestnut Hill College (0-9, 0-3) for a five-goal run. The rally included an assist and two goals from freshman midfielder Alicia Herbert (Little Egg Harbor, N.J.), who first found freshman midfielder Lea Sanders (North Merrick, N.Y.) before following a free position goal from sophomore midfielder Emorie Keimig (Freeland, Md.) with two of her own at 13:56 and 13:04, 5-3. Unfortunately, the Lions answered with the last four goals of the period, 7-5. In the second half goals were harder to come by as the winds intensified at Plymouth Whitemarsh High School. The Griffins got the first, when freshman midfielder Samantha Herron (Cinnaminson, N.J.) deposited an unassisted goal at 25:34, 7-6. The Lions answered less than four minutes later, reestablishing a more comfortable two-goal advantage at 21:47, 8-6. The spread stayed there until 11:24, when a free position goal from Herbert cut the gap back to one, 8-7. O'Leary completed a perfectly placed pass from Sanders to tie the game at 8-8 (5:34), but a little more than two minutes later junior attack Kerry Stader (Matawan, N.J.) found sophomore midfielder Callie Brown (Toms River, N.J.) for the Lions game-winner, 9-8 (3:19).
 
Senior midfielder Cat Dee (Howell, N.J.) led the Lions with four goals, a ground ball, and a draw. Her effort was supported b two goals, two ground balls, and five draws from Brown. In goal, sophomore Stephanie Lehner (Howell, N.J.) made ten saves and recovered a ground ball for the win (8-0).
 
Herbert finished the contest with three goals, an assist, a draw, and two caused turnovers. Sanders added three ground balls, two draws, and a caused turnover to her offensive production while Herron offered three ground balls, four draws, and three caused turnovers in addition to her tally. Freshman goalkeeper Katie Joe Lang (Manassas, Va.) made seven saves and recovered a ground ball in the loss (0-9).

The women's lacrosse team visits Philadelphia University at 4:30 p.m. on Monday, March 31, to continue their CACC schedule with an opening draw.
