Herron and Klouda Hero Griffins Overtime Win

Box Score Waterbury, Conn. - (4/11/2014) – With 1:09 remaining in regulation, a free position goal from freshman midfielder Jacklyn O'Leary (East Meadow, N.Y.) ended a 4-0 run by Post University and forced overtime. Chestnut Hill College would be the only team to score in the extra frame as freshman midfielder Samantha Herron (Cinnaminson, N.J.) and senior KarlaAne Klouda (Belvidere, N.J.) deposited the last tallies of an 18-16 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) victory.
 
Post University (4-9, 4-6) controlled the first half of play with freshman attack Shannon Young (Centereach, N.Y.) scoring five goals in an 11-8 halftime spread. Chestnut Hill College (3-10, 3-4) turned the tables in the second half with Klouda and Herron piloting the Griffins to a 15-12 advantage before a four-goal Eagle run returned the home team to the lead, 16-15, with 4:16 left to play. With time winding down, O'Leary drew a foul the free position attempt just before the one-minute mark. For the fifth time this season (5-of-10) she was successful, forcing overtime with her third tally of the affair, 16-16. In the deciding frame, the CACC rival traded sides of the field before Herron provided the eventual game-winner on an unassisted goal at 2:13, 17-16, but it was Klouda who ended the drama a couple seconds early, providing the second goal of overtime with six seconds remaining (0:06), 18-16.
 
Young finished with seven points, providing the Eagles with six goals and an assist in addition to two ground balls and a draw control. She got help from a quartet of her classmates; most notably was junior midfielder Miranda Polaski (Agawam, Mass.) who totaled two goals, two assists, four ground balls, nine draws, and five caused turnovers. In goal, senior Kathy Walker (Dorchester, Mass.) made 20 saves and recovered three ground balls in the loss (4-9).
 
Klouda offered her best collegiate performance to the fray, accumulating five goals, six ground ball, two draws, and three caused turnovers. Herron also totaled five points with three goals and two assists in addition to eight draw controls. O'Leary was one of three with three points; she finished the affair with her fifth hat-trick of the season, four ground balls, and two caused turnovers. Freshman goalkeeper Katie Joe Lang (Manassas, Va.) totaled 11 saves, two ground balls, and a caused turnover in the win (3-10).
 
The women's lacrosse team will return to action on Monday, April 14, when they host Holy Family University in a 7:00 p.m. CACC contest.
