Griffins Hitless In Game One, Tigers Take Two

4/13/2014 8:12:00 PM

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Philadelphia, Pa. – (4/13/2014) – Taking advantage of the warm weather, Chestnut Hill College visited Holy Family University to makeup a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) doubleheader. Senior pitcher Rachel Alligood (Levittown, Pa.) tossed a 2-0 no-hitter in game one and her staff mate freshman Amanda Paredes (Moorpark, Calif.) finished the sweep, holding the Griffins to just four hits in a 1-0 final. Senior first baseman Giana Cavallo (Turnersville, Pa.) recorded two hits in the game two.

In a low scoring afternoon runs became a valuable commodity. In the opener, Alligood sat down 21 straight Griffins after starting the game with a lead-off walk to freshman center fielder Ashleigh Sharp (Upper Dublin, Pa.). She struck out five while Chestnut Hill College (6-18, 6-10) sophomore pitcher Courtney Dayter (Cohoes, N.Y.) kept things close by allowing only two runs on five hits and two walks.

Cavallo's lead-off double in the second inning of game two gave the Griffins their second base runner of the day. With a single from sophomore third baseman Emily Soller (Bel Air, Md.) and a beaning of sophomore designated player Laura Eidam (South Salem, N.Y) they loaded the bases without an out. Unfortunately, Paredes stranded the runners with two strikeouts and a pop out to third base. Cavallo singled to lead-off the fourth inning and sophomore left fielder Nicole Carney (Ontario, Calif.) tripled with one out in the fifth inning, but the Griffins could make nothing of it in a second league shutout.

The softball team resumes their CACC schedule on Tuesday, April 15, when they host Philadelphia University in a 2:00 p.m. doubleheader.
