Michael Melnychenko (St. Catharines, Ontario) headlined another big win for Chestnut Hill College who scored 20 goals in consecutive victories after today's 20-6 defeat of Post University. The Griffins controlled the contest from beginning until end, scoring ten goals in each half and winning a majority of the face-offs thanks to a team effort from the midfield unit.
Freshman attack
Alec Dambach (Howell, N.J.) scored the game's first goal 10:59 remaining in the opening quarter, but Chestnut Hill College (5-5) did not start to pick up momentum until a five-goal run in the second quarter that left Post University (3-10) in a 9-1 deficit with five minutes (5:08) remaining in the first half. Each team would score once more before halftime, 10-2, but after the break Melnychenko took over, scoring three times and assisting once in a four-goal run that pushed the Griffins to a 15-3 lead and an eventual 20-6 victory.
Freshman attack Kyle Shannon (Stanhope, N.J.) led the Eagle effort with three goals, an assist, a ground ball, and a caused turnover. Junior goalkeeper Anthony DeRosa (Toms River, N.J.) made 14 saves and recovered two ground balls in the loses (3-10).
Melnychenko totaled eight points with five goals and three assists coming in addition to three ground balls and two caused turnovers. Dambach and sophomore attack
Tanner Fisher (Port Coquitlam, British Columbia) each recorded three goals while senior midfield
Michael Landau (Lancaster, Pa.) was the fourth Griffin with at least three points on his two goals and an assist. Senior
Joseph Donnelly (Newtown Square, Pa.) earned the win (5-5) with three saves in the opening 30 minutes, before freshman
Thomas McDermott (Holms, Pa.) recorded six saves in the closing 30.
The men's lacrosse team returns to their East Coast Conference (ECC) schedule on Saturday, April 19, when they host the University of the District of Columbia in a 1:00 p.m. home finale. The Chestnut Hill College Department of Athletics will recognize the Griffins senior class prior to the start of the contest.
