Griffins Claim 4th Seed in Inaugural ECC Championship Tournament

Central Islip, N.Y. - (4/29/2014) – Finishing the regular season at 7-5 overall and 5-3 in the league play, Chestnut Hill College has qualified as the #4 seed in the inaugural East Coast Conference Championship Tournament. The Griffins will take on, top-seeded, Dowling College in a 5:00 p.m. semifinal this Wednesday, April 30. The ECC Championship games will take place on Saturday, May 3, at LIU Post University.
 
The ECC Semifinal round will open with a 3:00 p.m. matchup between #2 The New York Institute of Technology (NYIT) and #3 LIU Post University with the second semifinal, between the Griffins and Golden Lions, will follow. Tickets for all championship games will be $6 for adults and $2 for senior citizens, students with a valid college I.D., and for children 5-12. Children under the age of five will be admitted for free. During the championship games at LIU Post University, the ECC will also host a Make-A-Wish carnival run by the Student-Athlete Advisory Committees (SAAC) of ECC member institutions. Carnival games and interactive vendor booths will be available to entertain fans during the games. All proceeds from the carnival will go to the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
 
Dowling College (11-3, 7-1) and NYIT (12-3, 7-1) tied as Regular-Season Co-Champions with 7-1 league records, but with a head-to-head win the Golden Lions have earned the right to serve as the tournament's top seed. The Golden Lions have been led by a balanced attack, highlighted by 56 points (46 goals and ten assists) from senior attack Matt Crough (Peterborough, Ontario) while NYIT was fronted by junior attack Luke Miller (Mastic, N.Y.) who led the ECC in assists (47) and finished second in points (81).
 
LIU Post University offered four 20-goal scorers and one of the league's top goalkeepers in graduate T.J. DiCarlo (Farmingdale, N.Y.) while Chestnut Hill College (7-5, 5-3) offers on of the league's top scorers (T3rd, 40 goals) in senior attack Michael Melnychenko (St. Catharines, Ontario) and pride of experienced seniors who have guided them through the one of the toughest schedules in the nation.
