Michael Melnychenko (St. Catharines, Ontario) scored #15 Chestnut Hill College's first goal of today's East Coast Conference (ECC) game at #5 Dowling College with one second remaining in the first quarter. Unfortunately, it came after eight Golden Lion goals and before 12 others in a 20-11 final. Melnychenko totaled five points in the loss, offering four goals and an assist in addition to his four ground balls.
Dowling College (6-2, 3-0) set the tempo on their home field, controlling the early play to own a 13-4 halftime lead. Chestnut Hill College (3-5, 2-3) cut the deficit by a goal by the end of the third quarter, 15-7, but they would never get closer than eight goals, 18-10 at 9:54, in the Golden Lions nine-goal victory, 20-11. They were led by Matt Crough (Peterborough, Ontario), who totaled eight points with four goals and four assists. He also recovered two ground balls. Senior attack Kevin McElhone (Setauket, N.Y.) provided five goals and collected two ground balls while three others recorded at least three points in a balanced team effort. Sophomore midfielder Michael Fitzpatrick (Wantagh, N.Y.) won 19-of-33 (.576) face-offs and secured 11 ground balls while in goal, freshman Frank Sommers (Brookhaven, N.Y.) made eight saves for the win (6-2).

Michael Landau (Lancaster, Pa.), who scored three goals, made an assist, and hustled to four ground balls. Five others recorded at least a point while freshman midfielder
Joseph Pozniak (Berkeley Heights, N.J.) won 13 (13-of-28, .464) face-offs for the Griffins. Senior goalkeeper
Joseph Donnelly (Newtown Square, Pa.) took the loss (3-5), but freshman goalkeeper
Thomas McDermott (Holms, Pa.) played a majority of the game (43:58) and made all 11 of the Griffins saves.
The men's lacrosse team visits Dominican College at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 12, for their next ECC encounter.
