Late Run Lifts Lady Chargers over Griffins

Box Score Hillburn, N.Y. - (4/8/2014) – In a tightly played Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest Dominican College outscored Chestnut Hill College by a goal in each half, but needed five consecutive scores to defeat the Griffins by a 15-13 final. Freshman midfielder Alicia Herbert (Little Egg Harbor, N.J.) and senior attack Kelly Campbell (Hatboro, Pa.) totaled five points apiece as the top performers for the Griffins.
 
Chestnut Hill College (2-10, 2-4) was the trend setter in early play as goals from Herbert, freshman midfielder Lea Sanders (North Merrick, N.Y.), freshman midfielder Samantha Herron (Cinnaminson, N.J.), and Campbell earned the Griffins a 5-3 edge with 16:31 remaining in the opening half. Unfortunately, Dominican College (5-4, 4-2) scored five of the last six first-half goals to own an 8-6 advantage at intermission. After the break, the Griffins went back on the offensive with Herbert highlighting a six-goal run with three scores, 12-8 at 12:54. Down but not out, the Lady Chargers offered a run of their own as the outscored the Griffins 7-1 over the final 12:45, 15-13.
 
Sophomore midfielder Christina Brennan (Washington Township, N.J.) led four Lady Chargers with three points of more with her four goals and an assist (five points). She also recorded three ground balls, four draws, and a caused turnover. In goal, sophomore Brittany Kiernan (Clarkstown, N.Y.) made 11 saves in the win (5-4).
 
Herbert earned all five of her points on goals while also recording three draw controls. Campbell totaled three goals and provided two assists for her five-point afternoon. She recovered a ground ball and caused a turnover in addition to her offensive production. Freshman goalkeeper Katie Joe Lang (Manassas, Va.) made ten saves and recovered a ground ball in the loss (2-10).
 
The women's lacrosse team meets their next CACC opponent on Friday, April 11, when they visit Post University for a 3:00 p.m. contest.
