Box Score Philadelphia, Pa. - (10/31/2015) – The Chestnut Hill College women's volleyball team welcomed Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) North Division rival Post University to Sorgenti Arena for today's Trick-of-Treat contest. Unfortunately, the trick was on the Griffins as the Eagles took the league match in three straight sets, 3-0 (25-23, 25-13, 25-19). Chestnut Hill College was captained by junior libero
Regina Trabosh (Norristown, Pa.), who looked to stabilize the Griffin attack as best she could with a match-high 22 digs.
The opening set turned out to be the most competitive of the three with Post University (19-8, 12-3) staying slightly ahead of Chestnut Hill College (9-18, 8-6) after a grabbing the early lead on a pair of kills from junior middle hitter Skyler German (Kansas City, Mo.) and senior middle hitter Kristine Ripson (Youngstown, N.Y.), 25-23. The second set was the shortest of the afternoon as a seven-point service from freshman setter Brianna Root (Bristol, Conn.) separated the Eagles for an 11-6 lead that forced a Griffin timeout. The break served its purpose, cooling Root, but only temporarily stalling the Eagles, who found their mark again for a decisive 25-13 win. Carrying off their second-set momentum, the Eagles marched out to a 13-7 edge in the third set, putting Chestnut Hill College on their heels in a match-ending 25-19 set victory.
German and Ripson totaled ten kills apiece as the Eagles primary targets. Root was the point woman with 29 assists in addition to two aces, ten digs, and a block assist. Joining Root in the defensive effort was senior outside hitter Hailey Griffin (Plainfield, Conn.) (10 digs), senior libero Janiellee Alvarez (Norwich, Conn.) (21 digs), and a dominate blocking duo in junior outside hitter Morgan Griffin (Plainfield, Conn.) and junior middle hitter Nicole Brown (Queens, N.Y.), who partnered on five of the Eagles' nine blocks.
Senior outside hitter
Rachel Biro (Nazareth, Pa.) was the Griffins' top scorer with 9.5 points on nine kills and a block assist. She was fueled by freshman setter
Kennedy Sutton (Chesapeake, Va.) who provided 19 assists in addition to two kills, an ace, seven digs, and three block assists. Trabosh's defensive hustle was supported by 11 digs from junior outside hitter
Madison McBride (Long Beach, Calif.) and four block assists from junior middle hitter
Emily Koehler (Bath, Pa.).
