Jaeda Wildgoose (Somerset, N.J.) continued the strong start her collegiate career with her first double-double effort; a 17-point, 11-rebound performance that kept the Griffins competitive until midway through the third quarter of today's challenge at the Pocono Classic.
The Griffins spread the production around in the opening quarter, establishing a 10-3 advantage on a Wildgoose three-point play at 6:43. Off their mark initially, ESU (1-4) tried to keep pace with Chestnut Hill College (1-2) from long range, but their frequent misses only provided the Griffins the chance to extend their early lead. Lauren Milligan (South Hampton, England) scored a layup and earned a chance to push the spread to double-digits with an and-one opportunity. Unfortunately, she was unable to convert the free throw and the Griffins edge soon withered, dropping to six points, 15-9, by the quarter's close and vanishing by halftime in a 21-11 second-quarter Warrior run. Junior guard Rachel Falkowski (Warrington, Pa.) was the first Warrior to find her mark, hitting 3-of-5 (.600) from behind the three-point arc in the first half. With her nine points leading a balanced effort, the Warriors held a 30-26 halftime advantage.
As the Warriors found their stroke in the second half the Griffins lost theirs. A 50.0% (6-of-12) three point shooting effort from the home team distanced Chestnut Hill College behind a 10-point, 40-30, deficit by 6:30 of the third quarter. The margin grew to as many as 18 points, 49-31, late in the frame, before maxing out at 26 points, 61-35, just before the final five-minute mark (5:18) of the fourth quarter. The final spread settled at 19 points, 64-45, with four Warriors finishing in double figures.
Off the bench, sophomore guard Imani Brown (Lake Hopatcong, N.J.) led the Warriors' quartet of double-digit scorers with a dozen (12 points). She hit 3-of-6 (.500) from long range while recording seven rebounds and four steals. Falkowski and junior forward Allison Howard (Aurora, Ohio) each totaled 11 points; Falkowski added four rebounds, four assists, and four steals while Howard gathered seven rebounds, two assists, and a steal. Senior center Michelle Boggs (Philadelphia, Pa.) contributed 10 points, three rebounds, and an assist while anchoring the Warrior defense with three blocks and a two steals.
Wildgoose was 7-of-18 (.389) from the floor and 3-of-5 (.600) from the free throw line in addition to an assist, a block, and a steal. Junior guard
Caity Kuhnen (Binghamton, N.Y.) was the only other Griffin to reach double figures, finishing the contest with 11 points while collecting seven rebounds and providing an assist. Milligan showcased her versatility and headlined the Griffins' defensive effort with seven points, nine rebounds, an assist, a block, and seven steals.
