Box Score Greensburg, Pa. - (2/22/2015) – After a late winter snow storm that delayed the opening of the 2015 season for a day, Chestnut Hill College took to the turf in Greenburg, Pennsylvania, opposite #13 Seton Hill University for what has traditionally been dubbed as "Battle of the Griffins." The home pride got off to the more favorable start, establishing a 6-0 advantage early in the second quarter. A connection between sophomore attacks
Alec Dambach (Howell, N.J.) and
Justin Albarran (Freehold, N.J.) interrupted the shutout; unfortunately it could not turn the tide as Seton Hill University marched past Chestnut Hill College for a 15-3 win.
Seton Hill University (2-0) set the tone immediately, scoring three times in the opening five minutes of play, 3-0 (11:11). They scored twice more in the period and once within the first three minutes of the second quarter to own a 6-0 advantage at 13:51 of the frame. Dambach and Albarran teamed to break the shutout at 8:07, 6-1, but the tally was not enough to sway the Seton Hill momentum as senior attack Mark Piche (Adams Center, N.Y.) answered the score with two of his own, leaving the halftime spread at 8-1. After the halftime intermission the deficit grew to 12-1 (9:34) before an unassisted strike from junior attack
George Markey (Branchburg, N.J.) gave Chestnut Hill College (0-1) a heartbeat, 12-2 (7:42). But again Seton Hill retorted, pushing the margin back to 11, 13-2 at 1:42 (3rd), before outscoring Chestnut Hill 2-1 in the final frame, 15-3.
Piche and fellow senior attack Cody Golon (Pittsburgh, Pa.) each totaled three goals to headline Seton Hill's 15-goal performance, but Piche was their primary target with a team-high 13 shots and a mid-third quarter assist to Golon. Junior midfielder Anthony Peluso (Allison Park, Pa.) scored in addition to winning 19-of-22 (.864) face-offs and recovering 13 ground balls while senior goalkeeper Brady Lawrence (St. Catharines, Ontario) made ten saves in the win (2-0).
Albarran and Markey each finished the contest with two points; Albarran matched his freshman goal total with two tallies in the season's first contest, his second coming off the feed from Markey who recorded his third-quarter goal thanks to Chestnut Hill's highest shot total (5). Freshman goalkeeper
Thomas McDermott (Holmes, Pa.) had a busy start to his collegiate career, making 15 saves, causing two turnovers, and recovering a ground ball in the losing effort (0-1).
The men's lacrosse team continues their spring break road trip with a pair of games in North Carolina. The first is a 6:00 p.m. contest at Wingate University on Tuesday, February 24.
